Marking the beginning of spring, Chinese New Year signifies the start of the New Year according to the Chinese lunar calendar. 2022 is the Year of the Tiger, last celebrated in 2010. Order in or head to these restaurants for an authentic Chinese meal to kick off their new year.  

Mumbai 

By the Mekong, St. Regis 

With sweeping views of the city on Level 37 at The St. Regis hotel, By the Mekong serves a curated menu by Chef Paul Kinny. Available to patrons until February 5, the menu is filled with classics like prawns in black bean sauce, seafood and spinach dumpling, stir-fried sliced chicken and chilli oil, Gansu lamb loin, and udon noodles. Sweet endings like a deconstructed Tub Tim Krob, kaffir lime sorbet, and a signature dessert called Chocolate Texture are part of the extensive menu. Bombay Canteen, Lower Parel 

Bombay Canteen gets into the spirit of Chinese New Year with their delivery-only King Fu Canteen menu. Inspired by the taste of Kolkata’s Chinatown – Tangra and Tiretta Bazaar, Bombay Canteen puts their own spin on dishes like spicy bacon and scallion steamed wonton, King Fu Mapo Tofu, black pepper chicken, extra special King Fu Triple Schezwan Fried Rice. For a sweet end to a spicy meal, try their Crème Brûlée Bao with a five-spice custard and silky caramel glaze.

Celebrate with a lavish Chinese New Year themed tasting menu at the award winning, China House Restaurant at Grand Hyatt in Mumbai. From February 2-6, the Sichuan-speciality restaurant is dishing out delights to bring in the New Year.

Dashanzi, JW Marriott Juhu 

A gastronomical journey curated by Chef Rohit Chadha is on offer at Dashanzi from February 1-6. Celebrate the flavours of the Orient, as you begin the meal with Year of the Tiger delicacies like Chiu Chow Kothe, Broccoli and Pine Nut Dumpling, Flaky Crab Claw Dumpling, Crispy Duck Spring Roll. Then move on to mains of Chinese-style pomfret, Hainanese Style Chicken, Hung Shao Pork and chicken Chinese sticky rice. End on a sweet note with Tang Yuan (fried rice flour balls served in syrup) and avocado ice-cream.

Foo, Town, Lower Parel, Bandra, BKC, Andheri 

Say cheers to the New Year with Foo’s Fiery Mary special cocktail, made with vodka, carrot and cilantro juice, horseradish, celery, Worcestershire sauce, and a kick of tabasco. Also, part of their Chinese New Year limited-edition menu is Prosperity Maki, Fu Dumpling, Spicy Sichuan Chicken, Abundance Cottage Cheese, Numbing Furious Sichuan Spices, Habanero Chilli Chocolate Ice Cream. The menu is available until February 28 for dine-in and delivery.

Ginkgo Pan-Asian Kitchen 

This cloud kitchen by the Pritam Group of Hotels and restaurants serves up a special good luck menu from January 31 to February 14. Start your meal with manchow soup, Singapore spring rolls, roasted Soy chilli lamb, Pork spare ribs in BBQ sauce to kickstart the feast. For the main course, order specialties like steamed Snapper, Chilli Hoisin Tiger Prawns, dan dan noodles and Cantonese noodles ending with Mandarin Darsaan, aka Crispy Honey Noodles.

KOKO, Lower Parel 

Highlighting China’s varied cuisine, KOKO introduces specials such as King chilli tuna maki, Fortune scallion chilli chicken dumpling, Black pepper lamb chop, spicy Sichuan numbing prawns to ring in the Year of the Tiger. Try their brilliant cocktails, Gong Hei Fat Choy and Ping Ping Ngon Ngon of which the former is decorated with the face of the tiger, and shaken with gin, pomegranate molasses, rose water and lemon. While the latter is made with gari brine, ginger, lacto-fermented grapefruit liqueur, and Foo brew (rice beer). The menu is available from February 1-28 at KOKO’s outlet in Kamala Mills.

Due to the recent easing of Delhi restrictions, restaurants are not celebrating in a big way. However, support your favourite Chinese eatery this Lunar New Year. 

Chi Ni, The Roseate 

This luxurious restaurant at The Roseate in Delhi offers contemporary Chinese, Szechuan, Hong Kong Cantonese, local Malaysian and Singapore Chinese cuisine. Prawn Har Gow, Chicken bok choi, Szechuan chicken and Hong Kong style noodles make up the exciting menu.

Shangri-La offers a host of experiences on the occasion of Chinese New Year. Gifting solutions such as mandarin chocolates, cashew and almond cookies, Medjool dates, candied walnuts, XO sauce, and wine are on offer. The 5-star hotel’s spa is promoting a special Mandarin Sparadise offer that includes a 40-minute mandarin infused body scrub followed by a 60-minute massage of your choice. And of course, patrons can enjoy an East Asian brunch with yum cha, barbequed mains, yusheng toss (fish salad made in the Cantonese style) and delicious cocktails from February 1-2.
