Dior appoints Jonathan Anderson as their sole creative head

In a landmark move that’s set the fashion world buzzing, Jonathan Anderson has been appointed as the first-ever creative director to simultaneously lead Dior’s menswear, womenswear, and haute couture divisions; a role that hasn’t existed since the days of Christian Dior himself. With the official announcement, Anderson now steps into a role of unprecedented creative scope at Dior, following Maria Grazia Chiuri, who had been leading womenswear and haute couture since 2016. Chiuri, known for her feminist messaging and signature romantic styles, announced her departure on May 29, confirming what insiders had already been suspecting for weeks.

At 40, Anderson, who hails from County Derry in Northern Ireland and is the son of a former rugby player, is no stranger to shaking up the fashion establishment. He’s built a reputation for defying expectations and blending artistic innovation with commercial success.

A Designer With Range: From JW Anderson to Loewe to Dior

Anderson launched his eponymous label, JW Anderson in 2008. What began as a menswear line quickly expanded into womenswear, celebrated for its gender-fluid silhouettes, bold shapes, and thought-provoking designs. The brand became known for challenging traditional norms while maintaining a distinctly wearable aesthetic.

In 2013, he took over the reins at Loewe, the Spanish luxury house under LVMH. He transformed the heritage leather brand into one of the most exciting and modern fashion names under the luxury conglomerate. His time at Loewe has been defined by a strong visual identity, unexpected references (from ceramics to surrealist art), and a reimagining of luxury craft.

Delphine Arnault, chair and CEO of Dior, called Anderson “the most talented designer of his generation.” Many in the industry have drawn parallels between Anderson and the late Karl Lagerfeld, citing his ability to effortlessly blend creativity with global relevance.

This sweeping appointment signals a bold new era for the storied French maison!
