New luxury store openings in Delhi and Mumbai

The world of fashion and luxury is rekindling its roots with brick-and-mortar stores. A shopping experience is incomplete without your senses being involved – be it touch and feel or the aesthetics of the stores. With the passage of time, more and more luxury stores are creating retail stores that not just showcase the creations but engulf you in a holistic experience. Taking this ideology to new heights are some of the new luxury store openings in Delhi and Mumbai. Here’s a virtual tour of each of the stores.

After their successful store launch in New Delhi’s The Dhan Mill, moonray has unveiled a flagship store in Kala Ghoda, Mumbai. The luxury, ready-to-wear brand, moonray by Karishma & Avantika Swali explores endless possibilities for a uniquely contemporary aesthetic, balanced between minimal and maximal codes. Nestled in the historic Mittal Avenue in the by-lanes of Kala Ghoda, the studio has been designed by Karishma Swali herself. Walking into the store, you are instantly reminded of a contemporary oasis with an all-white landscape inspired by the moon and its journey across the night sky. With curvilinear furniture as the highlight of the studio, it takes on an elliptical shape bearing a resemblance to the lunar orbit.
A unique light fixture custom-designed by the Moonray Craft Collective is set against a wave-like form that mirrors the gentle undulations of moonlight. At the centre sits an oblong inlay structure crafted from onyx in pale pink and marble in a muted green. Earth-friendly materials such as hand-coated limestone, onyx marble, wood, glass, and steel fixtures create a visually calm ambience. The fluted, curved walls and circular lines seamlessly merge into the background and harmonize with the arched windows of the heritage building. The new store also offers a section where Moonray now provides made-to-measure pieces in addition to ready-to-wear clothing, accessories, and jewellery. Each piece is commissioned and handcrafted with meticulous care and the highest quality. The store houses the Moonray Autumn-Winter 2023 collection, featuring playful takes on a spectrum of colours contained within a beam of light.

While talking about new luxury store openings in Delhi and Mumbai, one cannot miss the new Abraham and Thakore store in Delhi’s The Dhan Mill. After a 31-year legacy of the brand, designer duo David Abraham and Rakesh Thakore have unveiled their second retail store. Hailed as masters of minimalism, the store reflects the same ideology and champions hues of black and white – an aesthetic that the brand is known for.
Designed by Saurabh Dakshani of Studio Organon, the store reflects the charm of the Abraham & Thakore label. Staying true to the brand ideology, a monochrome palette dominates the space, from the main retail space to the changing rooms. The terrazzo flooring —another nod to the brand aesthetic – includes customised check terrazzo patterns for the floors, which feature a graphic, checkerboard pattern.
At this store, on one side lies womenswear with signature black and white ensembles featuring kantha, jamdani and ikkat as well as saris with tone-on-tone sequins. The women’s range moves on from monotone to pops of colour. Our eye particularly caught on to neon orange and pink jackets with kantha work on them. On the other hand, the menswear is arranged in a similar colour-coded manner. The menswear includes coord sets with quirky prints that are versatile and great additions to your daily wardrobe.
In addition to their range for men and women, the store houses the brands’ homeware collections initially retailed in London and Paris, creating new lifestyle spaces that offer both fashion and homeware. The collection includes table linen and ceramic serve ware, cushion covers and more.
