Refreshing encounters with Hendrick’s Gin
In the realm of spirits, Hendrick’s Gin boasts a rich history intertwined with an unconventional brand world. From its intriguing name to its refreshingly unique taste, Hendrick’s has carved its niche in the hearts of gin enthusiasts worldwide.
The journey of Hendrick’s Gin begins with a nod to tradition, as it pays homage to its Victorian and Scottish heritage. Named after William Grant & Sons’ gardener, who took utmost care of their legendary rose garden, Hendrick’s draws inspiration from his lineage and legacy. But what sets it apart is its whimsical moniker, chosen to evoke curiosity and intrigue.
Crafted using a blend of traditional and innovative distillation methods, Hendrick’s Gin is a testament to the artistry of its creators. Each batch of Hendrick’s Gin is crafted 550 lovely litres at a time in batches at the Hendrick’s Gin Palace, the playground of Master Distiller, Ms Lesley Gracie, creator of this most wonderful elixir. Hendrick’s Gin is distilled in Girvan, Scotland, and benefits from the plentiful soft water of the nearby Penwhapple Reservoir.

Hendrick’s gin is distilled in two separate stills, an 1860 antique copper pot called Bennett, with a reputation for manufacturing a spirit robust and flavourful, and the other a rare, long-necked Carter Head from 1948. The Bennet steeps no less than eleven botanicals in spirit overnight prior to distillation, resulting in an intense, full-bodied spirit. The Carter Head steams the same set of botanicals gently in a basket, yielding a light and delicate gin. The two batches are then married together to yield a liquid that is delicate yet robust at the same time, giving it a distinct character.
The process isn’t over yet – the spirit is then infused with cucumber and rose. Rather inefficient in the making – its popularity is entirely the result of its exquisite tase.
Its popularity has not resulted in a mammoth overproduction of the liquor, which remains at its 1999 capacity, for greater control over Ms Gracie’s artistry. The botanicals in the gin include lemon peel, caraway seeds, juniper, coriander seeds, orris root, angelica root, chamomile, cubeb berries, elderflower, yarrow and orange peel.
As the sun-soaked days of summer beckon, Hendrick’s emerges as the quintessential companion for leisurely weekends and casual get-togethers. Its crisp, botanical-infused flavour profile offers a refreshing escape from the sweltering heat, earning it a well-deserved reputation as the go-to summer libation.
Central to the allure of Hendrick’s is its affinity for the peculiar. Embracing the unexpected, the addition of cucumber in serves elevates the refreshment angle, imparting a crisp and cooling sensation that tantalises the senses. This unconventional twist adds a layer of sophistication to classic cocktails, making them the perfect accompaniment to lazy afternoons and balmy evenings.
Venturing into the whimsical world of Hendrick’s unveils a treasure trove of curiosities. The Cabinet of Curiosities, a whimsical collection of oddities and artefacts, serves as a testament to the brand’s eccentric charm. Here, imagination knows no bounds, and each sip of Hendrick’s is an invitation to embark on a journey of discovery. Hendrick’s Cabinet of Curiosities limited releases are the brand’s innovative approach to captivate and delight curious consumers, expanding our footprint and driving incremental category growth. These limited releases are remarkably successful at recruiting new consumers into the gin category. While other brands may offer straight-forward ingredient-led offerings, all of Hendrick’s Cabinet of Curiosities releases are always rooted in something real and are based on a strong sensory memory or experience.
In keeping with its tradition of innovation, Hendrick’s introduced its latest creation: Flora Adora. Inspired by the floral bouquet that most entices our nectar loving friends to pollinate our precious ecosystem, Hendrick’s Flora Adora is crafted from a refreshingly floral infusion. Buzzing with an enticing aroma of enchanting flowers and a fresh, herbal character that is classically Hendrick’s in style, the juniper and coriander backbone is lengthened by lush green and wonderfully sweet floral characteristics.

Lesley Gracie, Hendrick’s Master Distiller, commented, “I find it really relaxing to watch the butterflies and bees busy at work in the garden. It’s fascinating to me how they seem to settle on some plants more than others. Certain flowers are more enticing to the pollinators and it’s these blooms that I’ve used to create a botanical blend for Hendrick’s FLORA ADORA.”
Those part of Hendrick’s world and its admirers are aware of these limited-edition Cabinet of Curiosities releases. Every other year, the folks at Hendrick’s come out with a brilliant, limited-edition release. It is meant to evoke memories of a distant dream for patrons. Following this theme, these releases are termed ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’. In the Gin Palace, where it is produced under Master Distiller Leslie Gracie’s sharp eyes, each batch is crafted just 500 litres at a time. A gin connoisseur always has their eyes out for a Hendricks Cabinet of Curiosities release, since it is a rare commodity, and there is no way to get a bottle once it’s sold out.
Ally Martin, Hendrick’s Global Ambassador, added, “The Hendrick’s Gin Palace is Lesley’s playground and inspiration. When it first opened, Lesley scattered wildflower seeds on the ground to transform her surroundings, as different flowers come to life at different times of the year. It never stands still, and neither does Lesley. Lesley has crafted a beguilingly distinct and refreshingly floral infusion by carefully selecting only the flowers most adored by our nectar loving flying friends. The signature rose really comes in at the end in a pronounced, very Hendrick’s, way.”
Ecstatic on the reveal, Sachin Mehta, Country Director at William Grant & Sons India, said, “After a resounding success of the limited-edition Hendrick’s Neptunia Gin, we are thrilled to announce yet another addition from the Cabinet of Curiosities – the limited-edition Hendrick’s FLORA ADORA. This delightful creation epitomizes our dedication to redefining the art of gin-making and giving our consumers the power of choice within the Hendrick’s portfolio. Each sip guarantees an enduring sensory journey, inviting gin enthusiasts to savor the exquisite flavours.”
As we raise our glasses to toast the spirit of summer, let us embrace the world of Hendrick’s with Flora Adora. With its blend of history, innovation, and whimsy, it continues to captivate and delight, offering a refreshing escape from the ordinary. So, this summer, dare to be different and indulge in the extraordinary allure of Hendrick’s Gin.
