The Business of the Bridal Glow
A million-dollar opportunity awaits the beauty industry as weddings become more focused on wellness and self-care

“I’d always imagined my pre-wedding days to feel soft, slow, and a little magical—and Udaipur was exactly that. Staying at a The Leela Palace hotel felt like stepping into a painting. I checked in a week before our families arrived for a regimen of skin and wellness therapies. Mornings began with rose-scented steam facials and cold-pressed juices overlooking the lake; afternoons melted into Ayurvedic rituals and silk wraps that left my skin glowing.”
Delhi-based Surabhi Negi had been planning her wedding for over a year, weaving beauty and wellness into every step. Six months before her July wedding, she began salon treatments; the final week was dedicated entirely to eight to ten hours of daily care—yoga, workouts, spa sessions, and Ayurveda massages. “The therapists didn’t just work on my skin—they calmed my nerves, too,” she says. “They used marigold oils and cooling ubtan masks, ending each session with a saffron milk and rose-petal bath.”
Much like Negi, today’s brides and grooms are fuelling India’s booming beauty and wellness industry. Pre-wedding spa, skincare, and wellness therapies—once considered indulgences—now merge science, luxury, and tradition. Across independent salons and luxury hotels, bespoke packages, cutting-edge procedures, and curated rituals promise not only a radiant appearance but emotional calm, turning wedding readiness into a story of self-care.
Wellness as a wedding essential
Paromita Dasgupta, Rooms Division Manager at Sheraton Grand Chennai Resort & Spa, sums it up succinctly: “Self-care is an essential part of wedding preparations, focusing on overall well-being and natural radiance. At Shine Spa, many couples choose customised packages that combine massages, facials, and relaxation rituals to help them de-stress and rejuvenate before their big day.”
Wellness has shifted from trend to necessity, becoming central to wedding planning. “With destination weddings on the rise, bridal teams now schedule spa treatments as part of the celebration,” notes a spokesperson at JW Marriott Goa, home to Goa’s only hammam and Spa by L’OCCITANE. At JW Marriott Mussoorie Walnut Grove Resort & Spa, the tranquil mountain setting further enhances pre-wedding calm. “Couples increasingly seek rejuvenating therapies at Cedar Spa by L’OCCITANE,” the spokesperson adds, reflecting a growing preference for wellness-infused wedding journeys rooted in serenity.

What was once indulgent is now essential. Couples seek balance beyond beauty, opting for stress-relief massages, detox wraps, and nutrition-led retreats. Dr. Sushmita Sarangi, Commercial Director at J Wellness Circle and Niu & Nau, elaborates: “Pre-wedding programs blending yoga, meditation, and nutrition are increasingly popular,” she says, highlighting a shift toward mindful living. From traditional ubtan therapies to serene spa escapes, these experiences promise inner calm, luminous skin, and emotional harmony—setting the tone for a radiant start together.
From glow to science

The pursuit of the perfect wedding glow has evolved into a science-backed journey focused on long-term skin health. “In the last five years, India’s bridal skincare market has doubled, driven by social media and HD photography culture,” notes Dr. Chytra V Anand, founder of Kosmoderma Skin & Hair Clinics. Treatments once confined to last-minute facials now span months, incorporating advanced therapies such as Exosome Glow Therapy, Polynucleotide Skin Regeneration, and IV drips for hydration and energy.
Brides and grooms want transformation, not touch-ups. Dr. Rohan Goyal of Nuvana adds: “Wedding prep today is about resilient skin that photographs beautifully and stays that way.” Prachi Bhandari, Co-founder of Aminu, agrees: “The pre-wedding skincare scene has evolved from vanity to vitality. Glow is not something you ‘get done’—it’s something you build.”
Digital culture amplifies this evolution. Social media and destination weddings have made camera-ready beauty a priority. Dr. Geetika Mittal Gupta of ISAAC Luxe notes: “Brides and grooms now begin treatments months ahead, investing in Ayurvedic rituals and advanced dermatology — making wellness an integral part of the wedding budget.”

Grooms step into the spa
A striking cultural shift is underway: grooms are embracing pre-wedding self-care. Dasgupta observes: “While brides prefer treatments for glow and rejuvenation, grooms often choose deep tissue or trigger-point massages, and customised facials designed specifically for men. Both are equally invested in looking and feeling their best.”
Brides continue to indulge in elaborate pre-wedding treatments, while grooms are increasingly conscious about skincare and self-care. Dr. Sarangi adds: “Grooms view wellness as essential to looking and feeling their best, often booking spa sessions well in advance. Many couples also embrace joint spa experiences—symbolic of balance and connection.”
Once, grooms stuck to basics such as haircuts or bleach. New-age grooms now embrace targeted skincare, scalp and hair treatments, massages, and stress-relief therapies. “They opt for facials, body polishing, and even subtle makeup for photographs—a positive mindset change,” says Shawn Peppin, Creative Director at Jean Claude Biguine and Bounce Salons. Unlike brides’ multi-event rituals, they prefer focused, results-driven sessions. Self-care is no longer gender-specific but a shared experience, reflecting modern confidence, balance, and a commitment to looking and feeling their best together before the wedding.

Laser hair removal, quick skin-brightening facials, and IV drips are popular.

Dr. Anand adds: “Brides still lead with layered, long-term programs like HIFU or Korean facials. But both now seek holistic well-being — entering marriage feeling calmer, healthier, and their most confident selves.”

Dr. Gupta notes that brides often seek glow-enhancing and corrective therapies, while grooms prioritise clarity, hair growth, tanning reduction, and beard shaping. Bhandari adds a playful insight: “Grooms are quietly competitive about skincare… It’s functional versus aesthetic, but both are serious now — men’s skincare is about to become mainstream, personal, and unapologetic.”

Pre-wedding skincare is now deeply tailored. Dr. Madhurya Gogineni of Zennara Clinics explains: “Brides and grooms are equally invested in their glow, and our role is to guide them through safe, effective, science-backed treatments.”
Integrating wellness into rituals
In India’s booming wedding industry, salons and hotels seamlessly integrate wellness into celebrations. Dasgupta reflects: “Hotel spas today play an important role in the overall wedding journey by offering curated wellness experiences that complement the celebrations. Our pre-wedding and couple packages help guests look radiant and feel centred, making wellness an integral part of their bridal experience rather than just a one-time indulgence.”
JW Marriott Goa offers a combination of luxury and destination allure: “Especially in a destination like Goa, a renowned spa brand within the hotel hosting the wedding is a preferred option for bridal parties and guests to unwind,” says the spokesperson.
Dr. Sarangi envisions the wedding journey as more than a celebration—“It’s a soulful experience that begins with self-care and serenity.” Treatments like Ayurveda-inspired Shringaar and Vishramā rituals, and couple therapies like Somā foster “radiance, balance, and emotional harmony.”
She also emphasises flexibility: “For those with time, we recommend immersive programs combining detox rituals, yoga, and nutrition. For tighter schedules, we tailor express sessions that deliver visible glow and instant calm.”
At Jean-Claude Biguine, the pre-bridal and pre-groom packages go beyond surface beauty— “blending care, science, and comfort so every bride and groom feels refreshed, confident, and wedding-ready from head to toe,” says Peppin.
Ayurveda meets modern wellness
Traditional Ayurvedic practices increasingly complement contemporary treatments. Ayurveda treats concerns by purifying and balancing from within while soothing externally.
Rajni Ohri, Founder of Ohriaa Ayurveda, explains: “In Ayurveda, beauty begins with balance — when the body’s inner rhythms move in harmony with nature. Stress, irregular food, and pitta imbalance are often root causes of acne, dullness, and inflammation. Regulating your circadian rhythm, practicing pranayama, and connecting with natural elements enhance cell regeneration, reduce stress, and promote radiance.”
She recommends starting six to eight weeks prior, with rituals like Abhyanga for detoxification, Shirodhara for hormonal balance, and ubtans for brightening. Key ingredients include hibiscus, amla, Shrikamya Beauty Oil, and Japa Pushpa Hair Oil.
Ohriaa’s ready-to-use rituals, such as the Glass Glow Skin Ritual and Body Brightening & Polishing treatments, blend Ayurveda into modern pre-wedding prep. “Together, these rituals create a holistic self-care rhythm — strengthening from root to tip, and revealing the natural glow that comes from true inner harmony,” says Ohri.
Complementary practices: Yoga, meditation, and nutrition
Beyond spa treatments, yoga, meditation, and nutrition counseling are gaining traction. At JW Marriott Mussoorie, some couples extend their pre-wedding wellness journey by incorporating yoga or guided meditation sessions, especially in peaceful surroundings that naturally encourage mindfulness.
Dr. Sarangi underscores a generational shift: “Today’s generation values quality of life and approaches wellness as a way of living rather than a luxury. Many brides and grooms choose to begin their day with guided yoga or pranayama sessions to manage pre-wedding stress, followed by mindfulness or meditation practices that enhance emotional harmony.”
Destination weddings further amplify bookings. Dasgupta confirms: “They are driving higher bookings at resort spas, as couples and guests seek relaxation, pre-wedding pampering, and wellness experiences while staying at the property.” Even evening journaling detoxifies the mind, soft sleep music, and legs-up relaxation improve circulation.
Integrating dermatology and modern treatments
Salons fuse artistry and technology. Peppin explains: “Technology allows us to understand the science behind beauty, while artistry ensures results feel natural, luxurious, and personal. Advanced diagnostic tools, modern devices, and ingredient-driven innovations allow our team to customize every service.”
Dermatologists guide the entire pre-wedding ritual with precision. Gogineni advises:
“Therapies such as laser hair reduction, acne scar treatments, or pigmentation correction need to start six to eight months before the wedding. Closer to the wedding, we shift to gentle procedures like hydrafacials, mild chemical peels, or skin boosters for instant freshness.”
Dr. Prachi B. Bodkhe, Dermatologist at Envi Aesthetics, highlights minimally invasive options:
“Treatments like glow peels, medi-facials, IV glow drips, and laser hair reduction offer visible results with minimal downtime.”
People are no longer chasing flawlessness— they’re chasing realness. Bhandari clarifies:
“Clean, intelligent treatments that respect the skin barrier and deliver visible results are the new obsession.”
Through this intricate tapestry—from resort sanctuaries to dermatological precision, Ayurvedic wisdom, and salon innovations—the pre-wedding wellness industry crafts a holistic, transformative journey. It is no longer about superficial preparation; it is a celebration of self-care, balance, and inner radiance, ensuring couples step into their wedding day feeling confident, luminous, and harmoniously aligned in body, mind, and spirit.
