Tie-dye was the trend of the 60s. However, the print has made a huge come back in 2020 and is now THE trend on TikTok, Instagram, Youtube, and many other platforms.

So to get creative and stay trendy, here’s set of instructions on the 3 ways you can tie-dye your closet!
1) How to tie-dye your clothes using a tie-dye kit
You can purchase your very own tie-dye kit online

1. Choose an item that is preferably plain and a light colour. (e.g.: white T-shirt)
2. You will need rubber bands, rubber/latex gloves, squeeze bottles, dish soap, a container and a plastic bag.
3. Use the technique ‘Scrunch, Gather, Secure’ from the video, and keep aside.
4. Take your container to mix the dye and water together until you are satisfied with the colour (test out on an unused towel).
5. Pour the dye into the squeeze bottle and start applying it to the item.
6. Next, put the items inside a plastic bag and leave for 8-10 hours.
7. Finally, remove the rubber bands, hand-wash the item, and you are done!

2) How to use food colouring for Tie Dye :
1. You will need a medium-size bucket, 1/2 cup vinegar, 1/2 cup water, the item (e.g white T-shirt), salt and food colouring.
2. Soak the item in a bucket filled with 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup vinegar and proceed to squeeze it all out after fully soaked. Next, follow the same steps mentioned above.
3. Instead of mixing dye with water, mix the food colouring with water.
4. Lastly, before step 7 you must soak the shirt in saltwater, squeeze it out and proceed with the following steps.

3) How to use bleach for Tie Dye :
If you do not have dye and do not wish to purchase it online, you may use bleach instead, but this method only works on a dark coloured item.
