Explore Mumbai’s eastern waterfront at The Ballard Pier

Mumbai’s relationship with the sea is getting a new address. The newly opened The Ballard Pier Downtown Experience Centre brings together the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal and a lifestyle destination in the city’s historic Ballard Estate. Envisioned by the Mumbai Port Authority and operated by J M Baxi Ports & Logistics, the development reimagines a working maritime precinct as a place to dine, shop and spend time by the harbour.

Spread across four levels, the cruise terminal occupies the ground and first floors, while the two upper levels, at 17 and 21 metres above sea level, house dining, retail and lifestyle experiences. The restaurant line-up includes Ministry of Crab, Sorano, Naia, Titlie, Blue Frog, Nandan Coffee and Yeti, alongside cafés and other dining destinations. For a spot of retail therapy, the mix includes Nicobar, Mokobara, Columbia, Daily Objects, Perona and Nykaa Luxe, among others. The highlight, however, is the seaside sit-out. With views of cruise liners, cargo vessels and the eastern harbour, it offers a different perspective of a city whose leisure culture has traditionally gravitated towards its western coastline.
