Gaijin in Bandra

If you’re craving an experience that goes beyond just great food, Gaijin in Mumbai is a masterclass in immersive design and narrative. Conceptualised and designed by Spiro Spero with Keith Menon at the helm, the space captures Japan not through replication, but reinterpretation- burgundy walls echoing Kyoto’s autumns, filtered light through fluted glass, and a grounding Suiseki stone anchoring the room in stillness. Every detail, from Aizome blues to constellation-lit lanterns, crafts a calm yet transportive atmosphere far removed from the city’s chaos.

But Gaijin holds duality at its core. Hidden behind its meditative main space lies a rebellious alley: graffitied, grungy, and pulsating with Tokyo’s subculture. With Kawaii characters, film posters, and sticker art lining the walls, it’s a visual jolt that balances serenity with subversion. Gaijin isn’t just dining: it’s theatre, time-travel, and a taste of Japan’s layered soul.

At Milagro, every element: from the dishes to the dim lighting- it definitely feels designed to linger in memory, long after the last sip or spoonful.
