BMW i5 to Mini Cooper: The hottest car launches of 2024

The year 2024 has been a wild ride for car enthusiasts, with automakers unveiling machines that push the boundaries of performance, luxury and innovation. From electric marvels that redefine sustainable style to gasoline-powered beasts that awaken the inner race car driver, this year’s crop of new cars has something for everyone! BMW i5

The BMW i5 boasts impressive specs for both performance and efficiency. Available in two variants, the i5 offers either a rear-wheel drive setup with a single electric motor producing 250 kW (335 hp) or an all-wheel drive option with a dual-motor setup generating a combined 400 kW (536 hp) and a staggering 795 Nm of torque. This translates to a thrilling 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration time of just 3.8 seconds for the top-of-the-line model. The i5 is powered by an 81.2 kWh battery pack, offering a targeted WLTP range of up to 356 miles (573 km) on a single charge. Additionally, the i5 boasts DC fast-charging capability, allowing you to replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in a mere 40 minutes.

Lexus LM

The Lexus LM exudes luxury alongside impressive power. This first-generation minivan boasts a single petrol engine option – a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder inline unit with Dual VVT-i, churning out 190.42 horsepower and 242 Nm of torque. Paired with an automatic transmission, it offers a smooth ride. While mileage figures aren’t officially available, the LM prioritizes comfort and performance over fuel efficiency. Dimensionally, the LM is a substantial presence on the road, measuring in at over 5 meters long and nearly 2 meters wide, ensuring ample space for passengers and cargo.

Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV

History is made with the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV, the first-ever electric vehicle to wear the prestigious Maybach badge. This isn’t your average EQS SUV; it’s been meticulously crafted into a rolling statement of luxury. Forget standard options – the EQS 680 boasts exclusive two-tone paint jobs and massive 22-inch Maybach wheels that set the stage for elegance. Step inside and prepare to be wowed by the MBUX Hyperscreen, a panoramic display stretching across the dashboard, now customized with Maybach themes. In the back, passengers are treated to first-class comfort with power-adjustable, ventilated, and massaging seats that even feature neck and shoulder heating. Two 11.6-inch entertainment displays and gesture-controlled lighting complete this masterpiece of electric luxury.

Volvo EX90

The Volvo EX90 boasts impressive specs that position it as a strong contender in the luxury electric SUV market. This all-wheel-drive behemoth comes in two powertrain options: the Twin Motor with 402 horsepower and a driving range of up to 363.5 miles, and the Twin Motor Performance offering 510 horsepower with a range of up to 367 miles (based on WLTP estimates). Both options provide ample muscle for navigating city streets or highways, with a towing capacity of up to 4,960 pounds. Inside, the spacious cabin offers seating for seven passengers, with plenty of cargo room for luggage or gear. Standard features include a panoramic sunroof, a massive 111.0 kWh battery pack, and fast-charging capabilities that can bring the battery from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes. Safety is paramount, with the EX90 equipped with Volvo’s latest driver-assistance technologies, including Level 3 autonomous driving capability.

Mini Cooper Countryman

The Mini Cooper Countryman offers a punchy driving experience with its 1.5L or 2.0L TwinPower Turbo petrol engine, delivering up to 189 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque. This translates to a spirited acceleration that makes navigating city streets or cruising on highways a breeze. Front-wheel drive comes standard, with an all-wheel drive option (ALL4) available for those seeking extra capability in various weather conditions. Despite its slightly larger size compared to other Minis, the Countryman still prioritizes agility and handling, making it a fun and responsive ride.
