In a groundbreaking move that fuses high fashion with Indian retail magnificence, Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail Limited has announced a joint venture with the iconic luxury brand, Christian Louboutin.
Red-Soled Elegance Meets Indian Chic
The collaboration is set to bring the world-renowned craftsmanship and signature red soles of Christian Louboutin to the heart of Indian fashion. Christian Louboutin, a name synonymous with sophistication and glamour, has been a trailblazer in the global luxury footwear and accessories industry. Now, with this strategic partnership, the brand is poised to leave an indelible mark on the Indian fashion landscape. As per the agreement, the existing business operations of the brand in India will be shifted to a newly established subsidiary of ABFRL, wherein both partners will have an equal ownership stake. While Christian Louboutin already runs two successful stores in the country, the venture signifies a major leap in bringing international luxury to the Indian market, while also showcasing the commitment of both entities to redefine the boundaries of retail in the country.
“The collaboration will enable ABFRL to pioneer and influence the trajectory of the luxury market in India”, stated Ashish Dikshit, Managing Director of Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail. He further emphasised, “This alliance underscores our dedication to providing our discerning customers with the epitome of sophistication and fashion.”

Established in 1991, Christian Louboutin stands as a globally renowned footwear designer, celebrated for the iconic red soles that have become synonymous with opulence and celebrity. With an annual sale of over one million pairs, the brand has a presence in approximately 150 department stores and self-branded boutiques across more than 35 countries. The inaugural Louboutin menswear store debuted in New York in 2012.
Throughout his illustrious career, Louboutin has engaged in collaborations with esteemed fashion houses such as Alexander McQueen, Lanvin, Viktor & Rolf, Roland Mouret, and Jean Paul Gaultier. Notably, he designed sandals for Saint Laurent’s final runway collection, sparking a legal dispute concerning the trademark of the red soles. In 2014, Louboutin expanded into the beauty industry, ultimately securing a beauty license with Puig in 2018.
Christian Louboutin’s pre-existing stores in India
After being in awe of Bollywood during his visit to India for his Spring/Summer 2012 collection, shoe maverick Christian Louboutin decided to open his first boutique in India at DLF Emporio Mall, New Delhi. Launched on February 10th, 2012, the stand-alone store had a super imposed Eiffel Tower at the back of the store keeping in mind Louboutin’s French aesthetics. The launch collection included the Bollywood inspired collection, the Marquise, the Louboutin classic Pigalle and the spikes and metal-toed Gareth’s dress shoe.
