Currently, one of the most talked about series on Netflix, Hunger is a peak behind the curtain highlighting the struggles of working for a professional chef. The movie focuses on Aoy, a talented cook who runs a family restaurant in Bangkok while dreaming of making it big in the world of fine dining. A chance meeting with Tone, a junior sous-chef from Hunger, gives Aoy the opportunity to audition for a position at the restaurant which she successfully aces given her excellent wok skills. However, working for the infamous Chef Paul isn’t as glorious as it seems. On her first day at work, Aoy is mocked publicly for her inability to cut and fry the wagyu beef perfectly. Going forward, Aoy learns that the only way to survive and make it to the top is by pushing herself to the limit and navigating crucial and complicated intricacies that go down in the fine dining kitchens. Although the title Hunger hints towards a hunger for food, the movie continually points towards hunger and drive to achieve success, no matter the cost.

Comedy dramas or dramedies as they’ve come to be known are a special favourite given their easygoing plots with mostly favourable characters. Netflix’s latest, Beef, like most dramedies, has managed to become a fan favourite just days after its release. Featuring Ali Wong and Steven Yeun, Beef is exactly what it sounds like, two strangers who get involved in a road rage incident find ways to get back at each other till it consumes their life. Now the enemies-to-lovers plot might be been there, done that but it hardly ever gets boring. Danny is a failing contractor with debt and complicated family relationships while Amy owns a thriving houseplant business which she secretly wants to escape to spend with her husband and child. The troubles in their individual lives only aggravate their bitterness toward each other making for a rollercoaster ride of hilarious events.
