And now comes the #artchallenge. The trend is to recreate paintings and portraits from museums’ collections.

As part of this trend, a person has to recreate a popular piece of art by using a few household items, click a picture and share it on Instagram.

This online challenge started after a Dutch woman named Anneloes Officier and her roommates, stuck in quarantine, recreated Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring using a clove of garlic and a towel.

The hilarious and encouraging responses that she received online led her to create a new Instagram account, which features recreations of several artworks.

The Instagram handle is called @tussenkunstenquarantaine, which in Dutch means ‘between art and quarantine’

Ths challenge got a shot in the arm when Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam) promoted it on its Facebook page.
The @tussenkunstenquarantaine account was set up in mid-March and now has around 239k followers.
