Crowne Plaza Delhi’s ‘Daawat-e-Khaas’ brought local flavours to life

Whether you’re a born-and-bred Delhiite or a recent migrant like myself, there’s no denying the city’s perpetual allure. Delhi, affectionately known as “dilwalon ki dilli,” has a knack for continually giving and delighting its residents. And at the heart of its charm lies the irresistible array of culinary treasures, each dish bursting with authentic flavors and aromas. When asked about my favorite gastronomic hotspot in Delhi, my mind immediately wanders to the vibrant streets of Dilli-6.

But guess what? My craving for the authentic old Delhi food was recently satiated, all thanks to Crowne Plaza Delhi’s Edesia, that brought the local flavours to life with their 14th edition of almost two-weeks long ‘Daawat-e-khaas’ festival that showcased typical Dilli-6 delicacies. As I stepped into the restaurant, I was transported back in time by the extravagant setup of a ‘palace door’, themed decor, the air filled with the tantalizing aroma of spices and the sound of soothing gazals. Each corner boasted food stalls reminiscent of Old Delhi, offering delights like ‘Daulat ki Chaat’, ‘Jama Masjid ke NonVeg Kabab’, and the savory treats of ‘Parathe Wali Gali’. The cocktails were equally intriguing, with names like ‘Anarkali Martini’ and ‘Chawri Island Tea’. For non-drinkers, there were refreshing options like Khus sherbet and Mohabbat ka sherbet to tantalize the taste buds.

As I delved into the main course, my senses were entranced by a tantalizing array of traditional delights. From the aromatic Biryani by plate to the rich flavors of Korma and Nalli Nihari, each dish told a story of culinary mastery. The authentic Fish curry, velvety Dal Makhani, indulgent Malai Kofta, and succulent Tawa Chicken were perfectly complemented by specialties like Biscuit roti, Sheerman, Khandhari roti, and the irresistible garlic naan. All credit goes to Chef Ashutosh Bisht, whose artfully curated menu was nothing short of extraordinary!

Wrapping up my culinary journey on a sweet note, I indulged in the iconic Seviyan Kheer, Sohan Halwa, Karachi Halwa, and the quintessential Dilli-6 Zarda, savoring each delectable bite till the very end.
