Unveiled at the French Riveria during the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, Dua Lipa and Versace have come together to co-create a 90’s inspired collection. The Dua Lipa x Versace collection, La Vacanza (which translates to vacation) is a colourful collection of dresses, heritage butterfly prints, pastel hues and house codes from the 90s like polka dots, cutouts chunky jewellery and butterfly gladiators.
The collection revisits decades-old silhouettes from the house. Integral to the line was Versace’s iconic butterfly and ladybugs print, initially featured in the Versace Spring-Summer 1995 collection. Such playful elements are a continuous theme spotted across the Dua Lipa X Versace collection ranging from their presence on the signature Medusa and Greca jewellery and hand-painted or crystal details.
In addition to the nostalgic nod, the line was replete with flesh-baring gowns, tailored suits, and flirty printed sets. And...no summer collection is complete without head-turning swimwear and bralette tops and a dash of metallic and playful mules. Voluminous tailoring is layered over swimwear and bralette tops with archival Gianni stitch detailing.
Speaking about the collection, Donatella Versace said, “I love the summer and for me, this collection celebrates the very best of that time of year. This is the perfect summer collection—from lying by the pool in a fun printed bikini to dressing up to dance on hot summer evenings in the perfect evening dress—these clothes immediately make me think of my holidays and being in the sun. Dua loves Fashion, I love Music—we are the perfect duo! We felt like we were on vacation and that is exactly the spirit we want people to feel when they wear our clothes.”
Staying true to the summer theme and pastel vibe, the colour palette heroes baby pink and blue, black with colourful polka dots, metallics and monotone monogrammed outfits. Laidback silhouettes are juxtaposed with sharply tailored structures, and casual couture meets formal looks on the runway for the Dua Lipa x Versace collection. Adding some fun to the collection are strappy dresses, garter belts and athleisure staples. Giving this collection a nod for a day at the beach or glamours 90’s theme party. However, the 90’s inspired tinted shades, chunky shoes, jewellery, and baguette styles are a refreshing surprise. Overall, the collection is fresh and vibrant giving us major resort vibes.
