Pratishtha Rana
Actress Yami Gautam’s wedding with film director Aditya Dhar is a classic example of an intimate lockdown ceremony. The couple, who worked together in Vicky Kaushal starrer Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019), took to Instagram to reveal the news of their wedding on June 04.
What won our absolute attention and heart was Yami’s gorgeous bridal avatar. Celebrating the colour red in all its glory, she ditched the appeal of a lehenga and draped a dark red zari-work saree for the big day.

This isn’t the first time a Bollywood bride chose a saree over a lehenga. Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai, Vidya Balan and others, too, on their wedding day, proved that an elegant saree is all that a bride needs to make heads turn!
And if you’re a saree snob as well, this round-up is for you.

Yami as a traditional Himachali bride was indeed an effortless look to behold. The 32-year old was decked up in an all-red palette. She matched her red ensemble with a golden-bordered chunri, oversized round maang tikka and a choker necklace layered with a rani haar. Yami completed her look with Dogra nath and kaleerien, widely seen in Himachali and Punjabi weddings.

Deepika Padukone
Although Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh tied the knots in Italy’s luxurious venue of Lake Como, the power couple kept their wedding a traditional affair. On her big day, Deepika wore a red gold Kanjeevaram saree gifted by her mother, Ujjala Padukone. A beautiful nod to Deepika’s Mangalorean roots, the saree was designed by K Radharaman, Founder of Bengaluru-based heritage fashion label, The House of Angadi.

For two of her prominent pre and post-wedding ceremonies, Anushka Sharma stunned the fashion community with her faultless saree picks. For her engagement, she wore a spectacular velvet saree by Sabyasachi Mukherjee in a deep burgundy palette. While for her grand Delhi reception, Mrs. Kohli wore a bright red vermillion Benarasi saree by Sabyasachi, paired with a high-neck blouse, uncut diamond choker and earrings and sleek gajra-adorned hair bun.

Dia Mirza
Dia Mirza, who had a close-knit lockdown wedding with beau Vaibhav Rekhi in Mumbai this year, redefined the charm of red by wearing a silk banarasi saree from the house of Raw Mango. Taking a step back from heavy adornments, Mirza picked just a few jewelled essentials, including a kundan neckpiece and matching maang tikka and earrings.

In 2017, cricketer Zaheer Khan tied the knots with actress Sagarika Ghatge of Shahrukh Khan-starrer Chak De! India fame. For her wedding day, Ghatge glowed in a bold red-hued Sabyasachi silk saree. Going minimal yet bold with her jewellery, she chose a silver oxidised choker neckpiece that complemented the plunging neckline of her floral embroidered blouse.
