Every occasion is a good reason for fashion enthusiasts to dress up! For the ongoing festive and wedding season, we bring to you the best menswear fashion and style tips from three leading influencers.
Celebrity stylist Pranay Jaitly and Shounak Amonkar of Who Wore What When; Luxury influencer Riaan George and fashion blogger Varun Agrawal give us a lowdown on how to dress to impress.
Vocal for local
One big trend in festive wear is to promote sustainable designers and brands, believes luxury and fashion guru Riaan George. People are really proud to wear heritage textiles and promote our artisans. “For Indian wear, people are gravitating towards brands that have a sustainable messaging, who use sustainable fabrics and are reviving old, heritage crafts.”
One jacket, multiple styles
George loves styling a bandi jacket in many different ways. “A bandi jacket is a versatile piece of clothing; it can be worn with a traditional kurta-pyjama or with shorts, jeans, workwear or just to hangout in the house.”
The sherwani magic
He says that many people are now gradually replacing suits for traditional Indian wear. “One must definitely have either a formal sherwani or bandgala in classic colours of navy blue and grey.”
Classic and Asymmetric kurtas
This season, everyone is toning down – more or less. Hence, straight kurtas or asymmetrical ones make for great picks. They can be worn over pyjamas, jeans or any trouser style, says George.
But don’t shy away from quirky prints and rich embroidery works on your kurta. “I love wearing beautiful motif kurtas for informal looks or bright-hued printed kurtas for festive occasions.”
Pranay Jaitly and Shounak Amonkar (Who Wore What When)
For the love of neutrals
Jaitley and Amonkar are known for styling Bollywood’s heroes – Rajkumar Rao, Jim Sarbh and Siddhant Chaturvedi. The stylist duo recommends a neat and trim touch of classic with neutral colour kurtas during festivals. “For stay at home celebrations, one can pair a simple, neutral kurta with an embellished or a printed jacket.”
Eyeing the embroidery
Embroidery keeps the fun alive in ethnic wear. “One can choose a fit embroidered bandhgala with zipper detailing and team it with contrasting pants. The zipper will give a chic, bomber-style vibe to the whole look.”
In the last few years, tone on tone palette has become a favourite of many fashion-loving men. “A monochrome look in jewel tones (such as sapphire blue, ruby red, emerald green) or even a tone-one-tone embroidery on a basic bandhgala can make the festive wear look fun!”
Co-ords and prints
Fashion influencer Varun Agrawal is all for co-ordinate pieces in menswear. “Co-ord sets for men are so much in trend, especially the printed ones. Who doesn’t want to look cool, right?”
Sturdy boots and sneakers
You might want to give your favourite mojari a break and consider fusing western footwear with your Indian outfit. Agrawal suggests, “Boots most certainly add to one’s style quotient in today’s time.”
