Rika spices up things at JW Marriott Aerocity

What began as a pandemic baby ended up becoming a thoroughly successful venture in the tony colonies of Delhi. Rekha, a third-generation expat from Thailand, decided to setup a food catering business with authentic Thai dishes, a secret among the city’s elite in the midst of the Covid nightmare when it really took off. Recently, her cloud kitchen celebrated its third anniversary at JW Marriott Aerocity’s all-day dining restaurant K3 with a pop-up.

On offer was a buffet as well as a bar serving authentic Thai dishes and cocktails. Some of the highlights included classics like the Tom Yum Soup, Som Tam salad, Pad Thai, Gaeng Daeng – or red curry, Pad Siew noodles. There was plenty Thai flavour even in the drinks doing the rounds. Lemongrass margheritas and Thai herb-infused cocktails added to the whole ambience. The décor of the place was redone to celebrate the Thai connection, with tropical whites and bamboo lanterns adding to the vibe.

Spicy Rika has had an interesting journey from starting off in the midst of the pandemic, to growing leaps and bounds among the Thai wave in the city. “Cooking has always been a passion for me, I needed a little push from my husband to go ahead with the venture, and all my friends have been a great help in encouraging me to showcase Thai food in its realest form to the people of the city,” said Rekha Arora, the owner of the venture, at a party thrown to celebrate the collaboration.

Some of the memorable dishes from the night included Cashew Chicken, spring rolls, Hua Hin Prawns, and a spicy pad thai, that transported us straight to Thailand with its authentic flavours. Rekha is very particular about her sourcing, ensuring local ingredients are sourced from Thailand directly.

For vegetarians, there were innovative options such as basil tofu, garlic fried rice, and drunken noodles, yellow curry and stir-fried oyster mushrooms. For dessert, among other options we went for Tub Tim Grob, or Red Ruby Dessert, made with water chestnut, dyed red, and lightly sweetened coconut milk. The chewy texture of the water chestnuts was very similar to boba, and made for a light on the stomach but delicious end to the meal. If you are a thai food enthusiast, looking out for a delicious and authentic Thai meal Rika is available for delivery in areas around Delhi, and for catering services around Delhi NCR.
