No one marries Indian craftsmanship and Western sensibilities better than the veteran of Indian Fashion, Sabyasachi. The designer has represented India on the global podium many a time, given his recent collaboration with Walt Disney for their 100th anniversary. Being the maestro of bridal couture, Sabyasachi celebrates the beauty of India and his roots. Championing quality and uniqueness, each of his campaigns presents a sartorial outlook, and the Autumn/Winter collection is no different.
The Sabyasachi A/W 2023 collection includes clothing, accessories and jewellery and is based on principles of quality, authenticity and craftsmanship. Made in the Sabyasachi ateliers in Calcutta, the collection brings together the finest from across the world. It is a celebration of the best of global textiles with the finest of Indian craftsmanship and Sabyasachi’s distinct design. “The more I travel, the more I realise that luxury connoisseurs are part of a unique community. They buy less but they buy the best and the distinct. Quality, authenticity and craftsmanship—that’s what they’re looking for,” shared designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
Boasting an autumnal colour palette of deep hues like black, maroon, brown, rust, beige and olive green, the contemporary silhouettes are brought to life with intricate embellishments using sequins and Swarovski crystals. Peruvian alpacas, Mongolian cashmere, Kashmiri pashminas and the finest of English wools along with Japanese cotton and recycled nylons are used as the main fabrics. The finest of Italian jacquards from Como and hardware from Florence, heritage zardozi embroidery from Bengal and the finest of India’s threadwork embroideries and artisanal beadwork can also be spotted in the lineup of western wear.
From handbags to jewels, sweaters and skirts to embellished trench coats, the collection is a global coming together with the cultural savoir-faire of the brand. Elevated staples, glamourous eveningwear and audacious clubwear—the collection bridges together the restrained and the rebellious.
The collection brings us handcrafted sequin gowns, slip dresses, lots of shimmer, tweed, cosy jumpers and lots of classic pearls. The entire vibe of the collection is very old school and retro and transports us into the 1980s era from the moment we set our eyes on it. It might be giving international designers tough competition, and for good reason!
We will leave you with a few stellar images to soak in the beauty of the designer’s artistic creations.
