SRK to Priyanka Chopra Jonas: Indians who slayed at the MET Gala 2025
If there’s one Monday that never suffers from a case of the blues, it’s MET Monday! Every year, the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York transform into fashion’s most fabulous playground where the ordinary is left at the doorstep. It’s not just a high-profile fundraiser for the Costume Institute but the ultimate celebration of creativity, couture, and cultural commentary.
This year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” brought out jaw-dropping interpretations from global icons. But what took the cake for us was the stellar lineup of Indian celebrities owning the coveted blue carpet. From iconic debuts of beloved legends like SRK and Diljit Dosanjh to Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Isha Ambani turning heads yet again, India had a serious style moment. Here’s your front-row pass to the crème de la crème at the MET Gala!
Shah Rukh Khan
After weeks of feverish anticipation, Shah Rukh Khan finally made his much-awaited MET Gala debut, which was nothing short of historic. Marking a milestone as the first Indian male actor to walk the iconic carpet, he arrived in a commanding Sabyasachi ensemble: a regal black suit embellished with gold detailing, a bold statement brooch, a walking cane that added just the right dose of drama, and pendant inscribed with the letter ‘K’, being a tribute to the legend himself.
Diljit Dosanjh
Diljit Dosanjh didn’t just make his MET Gala debut this year, he set a precedent for generations to come. Styled by Abhilasha Devnani, the singer wore a custom Prabal Gurung ivory and gold sherwani, paired with a draped tehmat and a majestic cape embroidered with the map of Punjab. A feathered, jewel-encrusted turban crowned his look, while a layered diamond necklace by Golecha’s Jewels paid homage to the legendary Patiala necklace worn by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh. The gem-studded kirpan was a powerful symbol of his roots, radiating cultural pride at its finest.
Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra proved her MET Gala dominance as she stepped out in a stunning white Balmain blazer and skirt, adorned with bold black polka dots. The ensemble was elevated with a dramatic wide-brimmed black hat and matching gloves, adding an air of high fashion sophistication. However, it was her showstopping Bulgari necklace that truly stole the spotlight; a breathtaking 241-carat “Magnus Emerald,” the largest faceted stone ever set by the luxury jeweler, making her look nothing short of regal.
Kiara Advani
Mom-to-be Kiara Advani marked her MET debut this year in a custom Gaurav Gupta creation that’s equal parts drama and deep symbolism. Dressed in a striking black-and-gold gown paired with a flowing white cape edged in bold black, Kiara turned heads while paying homage to her motherhood journey. At the heart (quite literally) of the look was a sculpted gold breastplate shaped like a heart, connected by a delicate chain to a smaller heart on the waist, symbolizing the umbilical cord. A 10/10 for the vision.
Natasha Poonawalla
For as long as I remember, there hasn’t been a single MET carpet where Natasha Poonawalla hasn’t served. Dressed by Manish Malhotra, the business mogul made a striking entrance in an ensemble that paid homage to her roots while playing into the event’s theme. While the theme celebrated Black dandyism, the duo took the opportunity to present a different kind of sartorial storytelling. Her outfit featured a pearl-studded bralette, peplum bodice, flowing skirt, caped jacket with a regal train, and a voluminous ruff—all brought to life with intricate Parsi Gara embroidery.
Mona Patel
After a striking debut last year, Mona Patel made an appearance in a custom Thom Browne three-piece, blending classic tailoring with modern flair. The sharp black suit, elevated by a beaded corset bodice and a white halter shirt beneath, celebrated femininity with a nod to South Asian aesthetics. While the tailored black pants reinforced the contemporary suiting theme, her unusual accessory—a robotic dog named Vector with a 1000-carat emerald-cut diamond leash, added a futuristic twist of innovation and luxury to her ensemble.
Manish Malhotra
Last, but not least, Manish Malhotra offered a masterclass in conquering the MET carpet, giving connoisseurs a run for their money! Draped in a meticulously embroidered cape coat over a silk shirt and an intricately designed tie, the designer effortlessly blended the splendor of Indian craftsmanship with the gala’s theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. His commanding presence was a seamless fusion of elegance, tradition, and contemporary tailoring.
