It’s mid-May and that means the Cannes film festival is here. Yes, it’s that time of the year when leading personalities from across the globe make their way to the French Riveria to Cannes. Amidst the breath-taking scenery, the city has the offer, the most glamorous and auspicious celebrations take place. 2022 marks the 75th year of the Cannes Film Festival making the celebrations all the more grand and opulent.
Being held from May 17 to May 23, for the first time Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone is attending the festival as a jury member. The other jury members include Vincent Lindon, the President of the jury, while Deepika Padukone, Rebecca Hall, Asghar Farhadi, Trinca, Ladj Ly, Noomi Rapace, Jeff Nichols and Joachim Trier are competition members. Known to be one of the most prestigious awards, the jury will announce this year’s winners on May 28.

While the celebrations are going to continue for 10 days, for Day 1 celebrities donned ample amount of dramatic couture. Deepika Padukone and Tamannaah Bhatia sizzled on the red carpet.
Padukone opted for Sabyasachi couture for her appearances at the prestigious awards. During the day, she opted for a Sabyasachi printed silk shirt with a digital rendering of hand-painted vintage flora, monogram buttons and pleated wool trousers in a gorgeous hue of mint green. In sync with her sartorial choices, she opted for the maximalist route even when it came to accessorising. She picked an exquisite deconstructed Maharani necklace from Sabyasachi’s Tropic of Calcutta collection — the global resort series. The piece spelt out grandeur with multicoloured gemstones and uncut diamonds. Ensuring her outfit was the focus, her perfectly winged liner and a low bun was tastefully finished off with a matching headscarf. Finally, a tan colour belt accentuated the waistline and golden heels completed the look.
As the day turned into night, so did Deepika’s colour preference. Pastel hues and lighter shades were replaced with dark hues and much-needed bling. With exaggerated makeup and a striking sequins saree, she carried off the traditional Indian drape with poise and elegance. A black. sequinned bustier paired with a striped saree gave her outfit a contemporary flair, even as she chose a block-printed and hand-embroidered piece. A graphic black eyeliner (that covered the entire eyelid), a puffy high bun and a dainty headband added to the look. Further glamming up the look were the statement chandelier earrings.
Tamannaah Bhatia was the other Bollywood star who made heads turn on the first day in a gorgeous monotone Gauri and Nainika ensemble. Channelling her love for western couture, the body-hugging black and white gown was a winner hands-down. Featuring a subtle peplum on the waist, the fit-and-flair fish-cut silhouette further enhanced her body type. A long trail and oversized earrings further dialled up the glam quotient.
Both the leading ladies were styled by Bollywood’s top stylist Shaleena Nathani who is known for her sartorial sense of style and tastefully orchestrated each look.
Hina Khan is yet another usual at the Cannes Film Festival. Making her presence felt she wore an ivory Tarun Tahiliani corset with a draped skirt. Looking elegant and eclectic she broke the monotony with emerald earrings, while the makeup was minimal. Her second look was a red pleated gown by Rami Al Ali Official. Allowing her ensemble to steal the spotlight she kept her tresses open with statement earrings to complete the look.
Former, Miss Universe Urvashi Rautela made her big debut at the Cannes Film Festival this year. Stepping out in a tiered voluminous white gown, she surely dialled up the drama. Her outfit from Tony Ward Couture was elegantly finished with bold red lips.
Bringing the bling to the red carpet was Katherine Lanford in a silver sequins Prada gown. Styled by Molly Dickson she looked like a dream in silver.
Bringing the glamour of sheer and black to the runway was Eva Longoria in Alberta Ferretti. A bold choice that featured ruffles and splashes of sequins, Eva pulled off the look effortlessly. Styled with a minimalistic choker by Chopard, the star looked like a dream.
After her debut last year, Indian influencer, Masoom Minawala made her way back to the Cannes red carpet. Keeping the memo for the bright pink, she was styled by Anait Shroff Adajania. Opting for pastel tones during the day, she experiment with drapes as she wore an Amit Aggarwal creation. A contemporary version of a skirt paired with a cropped blouse and statement sleeves she looked like royalty.

Things took a dramatic turn at night as you choose a bright pink voluminous gown by designer Yousef Akbar. Styled with a sleek updo and Swaroskvi jewels she stole the limelight.
Looking straight out of a fairytale was Pooja Hegde. Bringing summer florals and pastel hues to the red carpet, her impeccable sense of style ensured all eyes were on her.
Elegant and poised each look gilded glamour. With a stunning blend of colourful prints, actor Pooja Hegde looked like a dream in Honadaya’s F/W22 white mini dress and with a matching floral cape. Orchestrating the look was Akshay Tyagi who then amped up the drama for the night with a stellar Maison Geyanna Youness number. Featuring ruffles, the off-shoulder gown commanded all the attention.
Adding glamour and bling to day 2 was Helly Shah’s pastel blue ensemble. Embellished with crystals and intricate work the corset and matching cape added finesse to the look. A sleek bun and smokey eyes further glammed up the look.
