Hospitality giant Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has announced India’s first all-women managed luxury residences, the Taj Wellington Mews in Chennai. In line with the company’s gender diversity and inclusion principle, the all-women management property is an effort to create an equitable workplace and ecosystem while empowering women in the hospitality industry.
Strategically located at the Old Mahabalipuram-IT corridor of Chennai, Taj Wellington Mews will have 112 spaciously and luxuriously appointed residences, which will be led by a female General Manager and a team of over 100 women across all the departments. This property is reportedly said to open in April 2021.
IHCL has made many efforts to foster gender equality with policies like extended maternity leave, compulsory crèche facilities, expense reimbursement for family expansion including IVF treatments and training women in the under-served communities and regions to improve their participation in the workforce.
Rakhee Lalvani, Vice President – Public Relations and Corporate Communications, IHCL, said, “Women at IHCL have played a very vital role in the organisation with their contribution and by pushing boundaries. The upcoming Taj Wellington Mews, Chennai managed by an all-women team is indeed a proud moment for all of us, and a testament to the Group’s commitment to improving gender balance in the organization with a vibrant workforce and by providing equal opportunities to women across roles and positions.”
