The capital city is always buzzing with the surprise of innovation. Be it in the culinary, tech space or the world of fashion it’s true that Delhi never sleeps. In the recent past, the city has witnessed a flourishing wave of new designer stores, and if you are looking to venture out, these new stores in Delhi are a must visit.
moonray, Dhan Mill
Founded by mother-daughter duo Karishma and Avantika Swali in December 2021, moonray is well-known for championing conscious, craft-based fashion. After the brand’s successful offline launch in Mumbai last year, the brand opened its New Delhi flagship store. And when it comes to new store openings in Delhi, this store nestled in Dhan Mill is an aesthetic paradise. Spread across 2500 sq. ft, the store will open in two phases with a larger section across 1200 sq. ft opening in September 2023. Designed and conceptualized by Karishma Swali herself, the store embodies the rarity and timelessness of craft. The organic forms create the illusion of weightlessness, provoking a contemplative dialogue between contemporary and timeless craft.
With an all-white minimalistic landscape, the flagship store is made of hand-coated limestone with terrazzo flooring, which are sustainable materials. moonray’s new store will embrace the lightness of being and classic minimalism by seamlessly creating harmony between the architecture and interiors. Keeping the focus on the clothing, the furniture is subtle. At the heart of the space sits a laurel fig tree to echo moonray’s profound respect for nature and love for the planet.
The store houses moonray’s summer/ spring collection currently called ‘States of Matter’, an ode to the ethereal beauty and transformative nature of matter. It is reflected in clothing in the form of embroidered beads on crochet dresses and intricately handcrafted lace collars. Silhouettes include drawstring details on summer parka jackets, fitted tops paired with A-line wrap skirts, tailored coordinates in vivid hues, crochet lace fabrics and raw denim jackets paired with skirts display the versatility of the collection, perfect for a balmy summer day or a night on the town. The colour palette for this season ranges from sand dune yellow, sienna red and fern green to bright whites and pastels.
Speaking about the collection Karishma told LuxeBook, “The collection is called States of Matter and really dives into how we can all be so different. But at the innate core, we are all just the same.” Adding further Avantika said, “The theme is states of matter, and we are very inspired by the changes in state matter versatility as it goes from solid to liquid to gas. We’ve taken little elements of the states of matter through the collection. For example, [the scent that I’m wearing is called the bubbles of series. And the bubbles here are inspired by the process of boiling and evaporation going from liquid to gas. The denim is raw, so it’s unprocessed, and it uses a fraction of the water as compared to normally processed denim, even the cotton that we use in the collection is organic cotton, which uses only 9% of the cotton of the water as compared to regular cotton. So, our first value is about sustainability which is reflected in our store with a little tree as an ode to the Allah of the planet.
Mishru
Youthful, vibrant, contemporary and playful, Mishru’s new address at Delhi’s DLF Emporio is a haven for those who appreciate extravagant couture. The vision behind the Mishru flagship store in New Delhi was to create a space that embodies serenity, sophistication, and a seamless blend of traditional and contemporary elements. The design concept revolves around the idea of an art gallery, with textured interiors in muted hues allowing the clothes to take centre stage. Adding to the aesthetic appeal is the visual merchandising of the store that presents the couture in a colour-blocked manner. One of the distinctive features of the design is the lattice partition, which adds a touch of traditional Indian architecture to the space, although in a modern cement avatar.
