Where love meets the table: The Culinary Rise of Destination Weddings
From Kerala to Dubai, and even Tuscany, Indian couples are transforming destination weddings into immersive culinary experiences where every dish narrates tradition, taste, and memory.

For Indian couples today, destination weddings are less about the zip code and more about the palate. As celebrations become increasingly experiential, food has emerged as the defining thread to express culture, connection, and creativity. The modern wedding menu no longer stops at a single cuisine or a chef’s whim; it is a curated journey across continents and traditions, plated with purpose.
When Delhi-based entrepreneurs Naina Sahay and Arjun Mehta chose Dubai for their nuptials, they wanted guests to “dine their way through the city.” “We had everything from mezze bars and Japanese robatas to a nostalgic midnight chaat counter flown in from Delhi,” shares Sahay. For Kochi-born bride Tara Menon, Kerala’s lush backwaters offered a culinary homecoming: a traditional sadhya reimagined with modern plating, spice-scented cocktails, and coastal produce. “I wanted the wedding to be about bringing everyone home—to Kerala and its flavours, its rhythms, and its stories. Every dish, from the sadhya to the cocktails, was a way to share a piece of my heritage with our guests,” Menon adds.
Whether it is truffle-scented celebrations in Tuscany or temple feasts by the Arabian Sea, couples today curate weddings that taste as exquisite as they look. In this new era, the destination is not just a backdrop—it is the banquet.
Here’s a look at some hotspots leading this culinary evolution.
Dubai: Feast in the Desert

Few locations have captured the imagination of Indian wedding planners like Dubai. Its connectivity, scale of hospitality, and unparalleled culinary diversity make it a natural choice for celebrations that blend tradition with spectacle. Beyond the grandeur, it is the promise of gastronomic excellence that defines a Dubai wedding.
Bader Ali Habib, Regional Director, Proximity Markets, Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, explains, ‘’Dubai has become a leading destination for luxury Indian weddings, where every detail is meticulously crafted to create unforgettable celebrations, and where an outstanding culinary scene offers rich flavours that cater to every tradition and preference.”

From elaborate vegetarian and vegan spreads to Jain menus, Dubai’s chefs blend global techniques with local ingredients to deliver exceptional dining experiences.
“Whether it’s a lavish pre-wedding brunch featuring regional delicacies or a grand reception with multi-course menus, the city’s bespoke catering ensures that food is not just part of the celebration but it’s the centrepiece,” adds Habib.
Exceptional food can be found across the city, including MICHELIN-starred restaurants that offer an exceptional array of dining experiences for wedding guests. At Atlantis Dubai, scale meets sophistication. Spread across two world-class resorts—Atlantis, The Palm and Atlantis The Royal—the property offers spectacular venues, from immersive underwater settings to panoramic rooftop terraces. “We are redefining the art of the Indian destination weddings by blending scale, tradition, and personalised luxury,” says Nathalie Henry, Director, Events at Atlantis Dubai. “Every detail, from mehendi and pheras to curated dining experiences, is handled with cultural sensitivity and precision.”

Food is not an afterthought here, it is the heart of the celebration. Atlantis’ culinary team, who are experts in regional Indian cuisine craft bespoke menus for every event, complete with private tastings and custom plating. Partnerships with globally acclaimed chefs such as Nobu Matsuhisa, Gordon Ramsay, and Gastón Acurio allow couples to offer exclusive fine-dining moments, be it an intimate sangeet dinner at Nobu or a celebratory brunch at Bread Street Kitchen. “This combination of grandeur, consistency, and star-powered dining is what makes Atlantis a benchmark for Indian weddings in the region,” adds Henry.

Across the city, Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab offers a contrasting allure, blending contemporary elegance with intimacy. Located beside the iconic Burj Al Arab, the hotel’s Pearl Suite transforms into a breathtaking event space, accommodating up to 100 guests.

The property also presents an exceptional culinary repertoire with 11 restaurants, four bars, and a sophisticated lobby lounge featuring Viennoiserie by the celebrated Pierre Hermé. “Our promenade dining offers stunning views of the Burj Al Arab, the Marina, and the Dubai skyline, making every meal a moment to remember,” adds Harun Dursun, Managing Director at Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab.
Of particular appeal to Indian wedding planners is The Bombay Club, led by Head Chef Kumaran Balaji. It offers a journey into India’s glorious culinary past, inspired by gymkhana traditions and the vibrant flavours of Western India. “Each dish reflects refinement, craftsmanship, and cultural richness, making it perfect for pre-wedding events or intimate family gatherings,” says Dursun. Those seeking something more exclusive can experience intimate Chef’s Table experiences at select venues.
It doesn’t end at dining. For couples looking to enjoy a serene and indulgent escape, unwinding at the Talise Spa is a good idea. From pre-wedding relaxation to post-celebration rejuvenation, their bespoke treatments and private suites make every moment restorative. Guests in select suites also have exclusive access to the Iliana Pool Club with private cabanas or the adults-only Kinugawa Pool.
Meanwhile, Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, The Palm, Dubai, brings a slice of Indian soul to Dubai’s coastline. Combining grandeur, warmth, and signature Taj hospitality, the resort is fast becoming the hottest address for Indian families. “We understand the rhythm and emotion of Indian weddings,” says Nayan Seth, General Manager at Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, The Palm, Dubai. “From pheras at sunset to a sangeet under the stars, every detail is handled with cultural authenticity and care.”
Culinary experiences shape the entire wedding journey. Whether it’s an elaborate North Indian feast, a South Indian spread, or a coastal seafood soirée, menus are personalised to reflect family traditions and stories. “Our Onam Sadya for over 600 guests, with 25 traditional dishes served on banana leaves, remains one of our most cherished celebrations,” Seth recalls.
The resort also collaborates with celebrated chefs such as Michelin-starred Sriram Aylur (Varq) and Greg Malouf (Raia), creating unforgettable gastronomic moments that elevate weddings into true sensory experiences. “Every menu, every flavour, carries emotion,” Seth adds. “Dining is how we make the celebration personal, memorable, and uniquely theirs.”
Southern splendour: Backwaters, banquets, and traditions
In Kerala and Tamil Nadu, weddings unfold like stories written by nature itself. Picture exchanging vows against a backdrop of swaying palms, shimmering backwaters, and lotus-strewn canals, where the air carries the scent of jasmine and the rhythm of temple bells. Here, every celebration becomes a dialogue between heritage, landscape, and the couple’s own story.
Mantra Koodam, nestled in the temple town of Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu, embodies the elegance of heritage and intimacy. “A wedding at Mantra Koodam is not just a celebration; it’s an experience steeped in culture, serenity, and soul,” says Harish Venkatasubramaniam, General Manager at Mantra Koodam, a CGH Earth Experience. With agraharam-style cottages, stone-paved courtyards, and jasmine-scented breeze, couples can opt for a full buyout, creating a private sanctuary for family and friends. From processions through courtyards to elaborate rituals, every moment is deeply rooted in the state’s rich traditions.
Food here is a journey through Tamilakam. Executive chefs craft menus that celebrate the flavours of Chola, Kongu, Thondai, and Pandiya Nādu, blending temple-inspired vegetarian dishes with select North Indian options for diverse palates. “We even reimagine recipes from the Sangam era, making every meal a cultural and sensory experience,” Venkatasubramaniam adds. Every dish is served on banana leaves, turning dining into a ritual in itself.

Marari Beach, near Alleppey, offers a contrasting yet equally captivating experience along Kerala’s coast. “Walking barefoot down a palm-fringed path toward the altar, exchanging vows at sunset, and celebrating under a canopy of stars makes for an unforgettable experience,” shares Johny Tom, General Manager at Marari Beach, a CGH Earth Experience. “Every element, from the décor to cuisine draws from the resort’s eco-luxury philosophy, ensuring your wedding is both breathtaking and mindful to earth.”
Culinary storytelling here is inspired by the sea and local tradition. Kerala-style banquets feature Moplah, Syrian Christian, and Central Kerala flavours, complemented by interactive live counters, tandoor grills, and fresh farm-to-table salads. Themed dinners, such as a Fishermen’s Feast, and intimate seaside brunches give couples the opportunity to personalise every bite.
Coconut Lagoon, set on the banks of Vembanad Lake, offers yet another dimension of Kerala’s charm. Century-old tharavadu homes, lotus-filled canals, and swaying palms create a setting both sacred and celebratory. “A bride arriving by boat, a mandap by the water’s edge, the soft notes of music drifting through the evening air add a layer of intimacy and indulgence,” says Harikrishnan R Nair, General Manager at Coconut Lagoon, a CGH Earth Experience.

Here, menus reflect both tradition and innovation. From grand sadhyas to fresh seafood delicacies like Karimeen Pollichathu, fish moilee, and grilled prawns, each meal honours Kerala’s culinary heritage. Ingredients are sourced locally and seasonally, ensuring authenticity and freshness.
“We believe food is an intimate expression of culture, love, and memory so every wedding menu is designed to tell a story. Our in-house master chefs curate bespoke menus that combine regional authenticity with contemporary sophistication,” says Nair.
Italy: Of vignettes and vineyards

A wedding in Italy, be it on the sun-drenched cliffs of Capri or amid the rolling vineyards of Tuscany, is as much about the palate as it is about the promise. Historic hotels and countryside estates transform into stages for celebrations where every detail, from hand-rolled pasta to the freshest seafood, is crafted to delight the senses. Indian couples seeking destination weddings can opt for curated menus, experiences, and settings that reflect their story.
Capri’s Hotel La Palma, originally opened in 1822 and reimagined by Oetker Hotels and designer Francis Sultana, is preferred for its historic charm peppered with contemporary elegance. The 50-room-and-suite property, steps from the famed Piazzetta, offers breathtaking sea views and private terraces, perfect for intimate or grand celebrations.
Culinary experiences, led by Michelin-starred Chef Gennaro Esposito, take centre stage at every wedding. From Gennaro’s restaurant and terrace to the rooftop Bianca and the seaside Da Gioia beach club, menus showcase locally sourced Italian ingredients—from lobster pasta and salt-crusted catch of the day to timeless Italian classics—ensuring each meal is a sensory highlight.
In Tuscany, Il Falconiere Relais & Spa (a Relais & Châteaux property) is synonymous for its immersive culinary and cultural experiences. Nestled among vineyards and olive groves, the relais provides unique backdrops for every stage of a wedding: welcome dinners, farewell brunches, poolside parties, or garden banquets. Michelin-starred Chef Silvia Baracchi creates bespoke menus that blend handmade pici pasta, estate-grown olive oil, local cheeses, and Baracchi wines with reinterpretations tailored for international guests, including carefully curated vegetarian and vegan options. “Our Thesan Spa, wine tours, and experiential activities further enrich the stay, turning each celebration into an emotional journey through Tuscany,” says Baracchi, Chef and Owner of Relais & Châteaux Il Falconiere Relais & Spa.
Amid rolling vineyards and sun-drenched olive groves, Arnolfo Ristorante in Colle di Val d’Elsa, dreams up weddings that are as much about flavours, aromas, and the rhythm of Tuscany as they are about vows and celebrations. Guests step into a luminous, modern space framed by 18 metres of glass, where local travertine, Siena yellow stone, and fine woods mirror the authenticity and craftsmanship of every dish. “When guests arrive at Arnolfo, they discover much more than a restaurant. They find a place that tells the story of Tuscany through a contemporary sensibility,” says Gaetano Trovato, Chef at Relais & Châteaux Arnolfo Ristorante.
“Every wedding here begins with listening,” Trovato explains. “We take the time to understand each guest’s preferences, needs, and desires, so we can create a bespoke and meaningful journey.” Culinary experiences celebrate seasonality, locally sourced ingredients, and artisanal craftsmanship, with fully vegetarian menus offered not as alternatives but as central expressions of the restaurant’s philosophy.
Beyond on-site dining, Arnolfo Ristorante extends its expertise to exclusive catering, cooking classes, and curated experiences at any venue chosen by couples, turning every event into a celebration of culture, beauty, and taste. “Hosting means sharing a place, a story, and a way of life,” adds Trovato. With over 40 years of culinary heritage and a dedicated, passionate team, Arnolfo Ristorante ensures every wedding becomes an intimate, memorable feast.
