Winter Haircare Tips from The White Door India’s Expert, Nicky Lazou

Winter weather isn’t all cozy sweaters and hot chocolate. It certainly is no friend to your hair, often leaving it dry, frizzy, and begging for moisture. Between cold winds and dry indoor heating, your locks can lose hydration fast. Add the holiday party season into the mix, with its heat styling tools and glitter sprays, and your hair might feel like it’s seen better days. How do you keep it all together? Nicky Lazou, hair expert and House of Talent of The White Door India, shares practical advice for protecting and rejuvenating your hair during the colder months.

Winter can be harsh on your locks. What are some essential tips for maintaining healthy, hydrated hair during the winter months?

During the winter months, I recommend the regular use of hair masks and oils. Oils are hydrating while hair masks are strengthening and repairing. Both work in tandem to boost Hydration and strength.

Are there any winter-specific treatments or products you recommend for keeping hair glossy and frizz-free in colder, drier weather?

I have created the Glossier treatment which is a salon treatment designed to seal the top coat, making the hair softer and shinier, in all the climate conditions. It tames the hair seals split ends and protects from breaking in this harsh winter months and even the humid summers. Masks are key to provide instant hydration and strengthening.

Are there any DIY hair masks or treatments you personally recommend for repairing hair during this season?

I just did a video on my Instagram which anyone at home without access to products can totally try. You simply need coconut oil, rosemary and Batana oil. This concoction is a mazing for dry hair and hair fall.

With the holiday season around the corner, people will likely be using heat styling tools, extensions and glitter sprays more often. What are your top tips for protecting hair from damage?

After and before a special occasion just do an overnight hair mask. Wake up, rinse off and then shampoo and condition the next morning. This is a hack i’ve tried and it works like magic. I peronally believe can never mask too much.

What’s your advice for someone who doesn’t have much time for lengthy hair procedures and routines but still wants it to look polished during the festive season?

I would advise to try the Glossier by my brand treatment gloss it adds incredible shine making hair look polished and lasts for upto 3 months. This increases the life of your colour, my colour transformations usually look polished for over 6 months before needing a touch up.

Many influencers talk about hair porosity and suggest specific routines based on it. Do you think this information is genuinely helpful, or does it risk overwhelming people with unnecessary jargon?

I feel many false information can be taken from social media, so always seek a professional’s advise. As long as hair hair a good persistent routine then it will grow strong without breaking.

You need the basics:

  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Mask
  • Leave in treatment
  • Heat protecting and serums
  • Maybe a night serum as we loose hydration during sleep.

What do you feel about online haircare advice in general? Has it made haircare more accessible, do you find that the advice shared online is accurate, or are there misconceptions that people should be wary of?

I feel misconceptions of always buying new products and anything just to promote more sales. While this is the new world we live in I belive trusting your expert is always very important as your hair needs personalised care. We all have different hair and hair issues so one does not fit all. However I think it’s amazing that it has brought awareness of hair care and that it’s just as important as skin care and diet

What are some things you wish more people knew about hair and how to maintain it?

Never skip conditioner. Conditioner seals the top coat of the hair to protect it like a barrier. It is not designed for scalp only for the mids and lengths. Hair is fragile and if it’s not protected it will wear off and snap off even without any chemicals. In fact virgin hair is more prone to damage as there is no protective layer over it and that’s why I have created the Glossier treatment to always protect and coat the hair.
