India House Brings the Spirit of India to the Paris Olympics

As the Paris Olympics kicked off with a dazzling opening ceremony, India marked a historic moment with the launch of its first-ever India House at the Games. The star-studded opening ceremony was a celebration of India’s vibrant culture and Olympic dreams, featuring notable figures from various fields alongside International Olympic Committee (IOC) officials.

The event began with Mrs. Nita M. Ambani, IOC member and Founder and Chairperson of the Reliance Foundation, lighting a traditional Indian lamp—a gesture symbolising auspiciousness and goodwill. In attendance were esteemed personalities such as IOC Committee member Mr. Ser Miang NG, Indian Olympic Association President P.T. Usha, India’s Ambassador to France Jawed Ashraf, BCCI Honorary Secretary Jay Shah, and Olympic Gold Medallist Abhinav Bindra.

Mrs. Ambani eloquently captured the significance of India House, calling it a “dream that belongs to 1.4 billion Indians.” She emphasized the shared vision of bringing the Olympics to India, expressing hope that the flame of the Games would one day light up the country’s ancient land. She envisioned India House as a beacon of India’s Olympic aspirations—a place to honor athletes, celebrate their spirit, and mark the beginning of a new journey for Indian sports.

The atmosphere was electric, with Bollywood singer Shaan delivering an energetic performance that had the crowd dancing to his hit tracks. The event also featured the rhythmic beats of the Dhol, synonymous with Indian celebrations, and a captivating display of the traditional Indian sport Mallakhamb by visually impaired children from Mumbai, showcasing the nation’s rich cultural tapestry.

India House, located at the Parc de la Villette in the Park of Nations, promises a variety of exclusive events throughout the Olympics, curated by the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre. With daily programming, panel discussions, medal celebrations, watch parties, and meet-and-greets with legendary athletes, it offers visitors a vibrant taste of India’s diversity and heritage. Open from 11 am to 11 pm local time from July 27 to August 11, India House is a must-visit for anyone in Paris during the Games, offering a warm and immersive experience of Indian culture.
