Bikini tops, dramatic sleeves, colourful studded blue denim jeans, fringed silhouettes and lace-up details personify Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring Summer 2022 collection. #DGLight is a vision of optimism and fun. A perfect balance between traditional and contemporary, in a celebration of the Y2K, one of the t-shirts is a tribute to JLo; a sleeveless pink and blue tie-dye t-shirt embellished with blue and red crystals.

Deep square-necked pinafores paired with simple bandeaus, typically Pucci prints with side cut-outs, miniskirts in simple silhouettes are part of Emilio Pucci’s new edit. Ease and energetic sensuality are the base of the Pucci SS22 collection. Quirky accessories like feathered, skimpy sandals and bags are paired with monotone separates.

Creative Director, Veronica Etro’s SS22 edit caters to a young generation of enthusiastic dreamers. Though inspired by the joyful mysticism and spiritual awakening of the 70s, the look is expressive of the 90s style. A perfect example is the show’s final look, a contemporary interpretation of the iconic Etro Paisley slip dress of the 90s. The line-up exudes a sense of positivity and is embellished with bucket bags, totes and shoulder bags.

A kaleidoscope of mirrored archways forms the backdrop of Fendi’s SS22 show. Kim Jones chooses an archival hand-sketched Fendi logo by fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez as the foundation of the collection. Simple, flowy fabrics were worked into kaftans with diagonally striped silks featuring a Fendi sub-pattern.

Giorgio Armani showed his eponymous brand collection in the basement of his own Milan house. Mediterranean-inspired looks reign supreme in this Spring Summer 2022 collection. Built on a love for the sea and sun, colours of the sunset like lavender, pink, orange, red and aquas layer the edit. Draped, fluid fabrics glide over the models, minimalism defines the edit. In an ode to the past, the models were asked to smile, while walking down the ramp.

Under the direction of Andrea Pompilio with a short movie titled Milan-Tokyo. The collection features multipurpose geometric, striped and animal print items, as it is the year of the tiger. The footwear has two new styles of sneakers, one with a printed sole, and a covering similar to a feline coat.

The Spring Summer 2022 collection is themed around seduction. Co-creative directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons strip down garments to explore and re-contextualise the outlines of a dress, bones of a corset, curve of a brasserie. Prada staged two simultaneous shows, one in Milan and the other at Shanghai’s Bund One. Duchesse satin sheaths with exposed backs, peekaboo cutouts are part of the edit.

Fringed balloon dresses, languid flowing bottoms, and bandage tops with cutouts are part of this Ferragamo collection. References from the 60s and 70s cinema pervade the ethos of the edit. Natural shades seem to be all the rage, and earthy mustards, browns, blacks and whites dominate the Spring Summer edit.

Neutral natural tones with sparks of coral, deep blues and greens colour Tod’s Spring – Summer 2022 Women’s Collection. Showcasing at Milan’s PAC (Contemporary Art Pavilion) the Italian fashion brand embraced outerwear in the form of dresses; hooded raincoats, pea coats, double breasted jackets were all paired with chunky sandals or boots. Designed by Creative Director Walter Chiapponi, the edit has clear, short and trapezoidal shapes. Timeless Tod’s accessories remain in their miniature form painted in bright colours, while footwear is paid special attention to, à la Tod’s.

Versace’s SS22 show opened with singer Dua Lipa making her runway debut. The show broke the internet with big name stars sashaying down in the bright creations. Naomi Campbell, Emily Ratajkowski, Gigi Hadid and Lourdes Leon donned black ensembles. The archival Medusa print and the new La Greca print accented the handkerchief tops, pyjama sets, and basketball sets. The foulard, a fundamental component of Versace acts as a canvas for their iconic prints. “The foulard has been with us since the very beginning of the brand, but this season turns everything on its head, it is no longer fluid or dreamy, the scarf is provocative, sexy, wound tight,” says Donatella Versace.

Following one of the biggest trends in the fashion world, a collaboration, Fendi and Versace come together to create Fendace. Both the edits exude a quintessentially Versace vibe, though with a lot of FF logos. Donatella Versace and Silvia Venturini Fendi stepped away from their respective family houses to take inspiration from the other’s vision. Versace by Fendi is inspired by the mid-to-late nineties period of the house, exploring an idea of duality, melding of the Fendi Monogram with the Versace Greek Key motif. Fendi by Versace uses the latter’s iconic safety pins, with Fendi’s signs, making the collection more rebellious, in the style of Versace.
