Le Petit Chef makes an artsy comeback in Delhi

Dining and art have long been synonymous to each other. Sometimes subtly, sometimes in full flourish, but never how I experienced it two years ago for the first time with Le Petit Chef. I found myself utterly enchanted by the world’s tiniest chef, a charming 6 cm tall projection who turned dinner into theatre and storytelling into a multi-course meal. It was whimsical, surprising, and completely unforgettable.

This year, he returns not just as the cheeky, globe-trotting chef I remember, but with an easel and a paintbrush. The experience was like watching a canvas come to life, bite by delicious bite. While it began with a familiar flutter of excitement, what I didn’t expect was to be pulled into a world where Van Gogh met velouté, where Monet’s lilies danced across the table, and where every course was a brushstroke of brilliance.

As I took my seat in the softly lit Zahara, the table was bare with no menus, no amuse-bouche, just a plain white tablecloth stretched across a single spotlight. “Trust the chef,” the host said with a knowing smile. And the magic began.

Projected right onto our plates was Le Petit Chef, a tiny animated Frenchman with a toque twice the size of his head. The first course took us straight to the streets of France with a Candy Tomato & Burrata Tart. The mildly sour sundried tomatoes paired beautifully with the smooth, creamy burrata made for a refreshing start. For the second course, we were invited to channel our inner Picasso. With a spread of beetroot and coriander dips, sliced zucchinis, and micro-greens, we plated our own lamb ravioli, cooked to perfection and easily my favourite dish of ’em all. After sipping a few cocktails, we watched the tiny chef return, tumbling, juggling, and occasionally setting his kitchen ablaze in cartoon chaos, to present a Chicken Roulade. Rolled with finesse and served with a side of theatrics, it was like watching Ratatouille come to life, only with real, edible results.

For the penultimate act, we were treated to a beautifully curated cheese and chocolate platter, a pairing as indulgent as it was harmonious. The last, but not least was the dessert, where our mini chef handed over the reins for a DIY Mango & Cream Cheesecake. Think deconstructed, whimsical, and wildly fun. We piped, we scooped, we tasted, and we finished the evening with sweet, mango-laced satisfaction.

Speaking on the experience, Abhishek Sadhoo, General Manager of Shangri-La Eros New Delhi, shares, “Le Petit Chef perfectly complements our vision of reimagining fine dining through immersive, memorable experiences. This new chapter brings guests closer to the creative process, allowing them to not just witness but become part of the culinary artistry. It’s engaging, surprising, and delightfully unpredictable, an experience that truly accords with the Shangri-La spirit of storytelling through hospitality.”
