Maximalism Has Entered the Dining Room With Louve

2026 is shaping up to be a minimalist’s worst nightmare. The clean-girl aesthetic has clocked out, beige is on notice, and maximalism is strutting back in, not just in wardrobes, but in the way we dine. Restaurants are no longer just backdrops for a meal; they’re cinematic sets, immersive escapes, personality-first playgrounds. Case in pointLouve, the newest addition to Delhi’s ever-evolving dining scene, and perhaps its most unapologetically expressive yet.

Founded by hospitality entrepreneur Shikha Begwani, Louve sits at the quietly powerful address of 1, Humayun Road in Lutyens’ Bungalow Zone. Branded as “A Table at 1,” the experience feels deliberately rarefied. Stepping inside feels like crossing into a vintage European tableau, where art spills across every corner and the room hums with old-world romance. Designed by Sarbjit Singh of Fabinteriors (whose portfolio includes Taj Hotels and The Savoy Mussoorie), Louve is maximalism with manners. Double-height ceilings, arched windows, black-and-white marble floors, gazebo dining pavilions and a 14-foot bespoke chandelier adorned with birds and butterflies set the tone.

An opulent European gastronomic destination, Louve is led by Chef Selim, whose résumé spans Michelin-starred Mikla in Istanbul and Cipriani in Istanbul and Dubai. His cooking leans into French and Italian technique with restraint. It’s flavour-forward, excess-averse, and confident in its classicism.

We began predictably with a Caesar salad and a quinoa salad generously loaded with guacamole, a treat for those of us still in our avocado era. The stuffed crimini mushrooms, filled with macadamia nuts and cream cheese, struck that perfect balance between indulgent and playful. Then came the comforting Citron Baby Chicken, wrapped in lemon butter and roasted pepper followed by the Funghi pizza covered with San Marzano tomato and mixed mushrooms that delivered exactly what a European fantasy should. But the Chitarra Morel Bourbon pasta? That’s the kinda dish that lingers. It was rich, earthy, quietly dramatic; the one I’d go back for.

Curated by UAE-based mixologist Vasile Dorofeev, the bar program refuses to be transactional. Cocktails from Memory invites you to choose based on emotion rather than ingredient. Each drink unfolds like a short story that’s nostalgic and unexpectedly intimate.

“Louve was born from a desire to create something Delhi had not experienced before—a dining destination that feels globally fluent yet deeply grounded, where cuisine, design, and atmosphere exist in perfect harmony. I have always believed that true luxury lies in intention, not excess. With Louve, every detail has been carefully considered, from the architecture and interiors to the way food is crafted and experienced. It reflects my commitment to quality over scale, depth over trends, and timeless elegance over momentary spectacle, created for those who value refinement, restraint, and enduring sophistication”, says Shikha Begwani, Founder, Louve.
