Raja Kumari gets candid on couture, fashion and Indian representation
What happens when a global music powerhouse teams up with one of India’s most beloved couture houses? You get a collection that owns the runway. In her first-ever fashion collaboration, Grammy-nominated artist and unapologetic trailblazer Raja Kumari joins forces with KALKI Fashion for a capsule that’s as fierce as her lyrics and as bold as her beats. Think corseted gowns, dramatic drapes, and lehengas with attitude; each piece a celebration of heritage, identity, and modern femininity. In this candid conversation with LuxeBook, Raja Kumari gets real about what LA INDIA means to her, how fashion became her armor, and why this collection is more than couture.
LuxeBook: How did this Kalki X Raja Kumari collaboration come to life?
Raja Kumari: This collaboration was born from a shared mission between me and KALKI to create a space where everybody belongs. We didn’t just come together to design a collection — we came together to make a statement. Both of us believe in redefining what luxury looks and feels like, rooted in heritage but speaking a bold, global language. The result is a capsule that’s not just couture — it’s culture, message, and music all in one.

LuxeBook: Were there any fashion rules you were eager to break while designing the Kalki X Raja Kumari line?
Raja Kumari: Absolutely. One of the biggest rules I wanted to break was the idea that couture should conform to a specific body type or size. We approached this collection with body inclusivity as a foundation, not a checkbox. I also wanted to challenge the notion that Indian luxury can’t be fierce, futuristic, or global. So we fused traditional elements with thigh-high slits, statement sleeves, and sculpted drapes — unapologetically glamorous, yet deeply rooted in our culture.
LuxeBook: The Kalki X Raja Kumari collection celebrates Indian heritage with a global voice. How do you personally navigate that blend of tradition and rebellion?
Raja Kumari: It’s how I live. I’ve always felt like I’m walking the line between two worlds — my Indian heritage and my global reality. Whether it’s music or fashion, I use both as tools to honour where I come from while creating space for the woman I am today — bold, expressive, and unafraid to rebel when needed. This collection is that duality stitched into every piece.

LuxeBook: Body inclusivity is a bold theme in this collection. What message are you hoping women take away when they see themselves in the Kalki X Raja Kumari pieces?
Raja Kumari: I want every woman to know: you’ve always been the muse, even if you weren’t the sample size. This collection is built to celebrate you in your fullness — culturally, physically, emotionally. Fashion shouldn’t ask you to shrink to fit in. It should rise to meet you, amplify your power, and make you feel unstoppable. That’s the message we’re sending — you are seen, you are celebrated, and you are couture.
LuxeBook: You reimagined your track LA INDIA for this campaign. How did your mindset shift between writing the original and recreating it for KALKI Fashion?
Raja Kumari: The original version of LA INDIA was a declaration of identity — a love letter to being made in India and made for the world. But reimagining it for this campaign gave it new life. I infused the track with the spirit of this collection: fierce, glamorous, and inclusive. Every beat carries the message of pride in origin and the power of visibility. It became more than a song — it became a sonic mirror of what the collection stands for.

LuxeBook: Fashion and music have always been your tools for storytelling. How do they play off each other in the Kalki X Raja Kumari collaboration?
Raja Kumari: They’ve always been my twin superpowers — and in this collaboration, they’re in perfect harmony. The fashion carries the visual narrative: opulent, strong, rebellious. The music, especially the reimagined LA INDIA, gives it a heartbeat. Together, they tell a story of heritage, transformation, and unapologetic self-expression. It’s not just about looking good or sounding good — it’s about being heard and seen in your full truth.
