Ever thought the day would come when one saw a fashion show in the midst of the New York Stock Exchange? No right?
Pushing boundaries and creating history, the Balenciaga x adidas collaborative collection was showcased this week at the NYSE. And if it isn’t off-beat, is it really Balenciaga?

Both the luxury houses are known for edginess when it comes to their individual aesthetics, and the venue quite aptly captivated the aura of the entire collection.

A collaboration between Balenciaga and adidas, the creations recontextualize elements of sportswear that have been a part of Balenciaga’s creative language for some time now. The trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange was a runway for models whose identities were obscured by fetish bodysuits, while flowly silhouettes were juxtaposed with well-fitted structured suits.

A mix of ready-to-wear and eveningwear, the Garde Robe line featured wardrobe staples in elevated cuts, sharp finishing and luxe materials: wool, silk, gabardine, and artisanal denim. Suiting separates and outerwear are toned down and redefined, without any branding other than bold silhouettes and precise tailoring with minimalist construction techniques. Evening wear is updated extra-formal attire: bodycon gowns, reconstructed tuxedos, floor-length silk trenches with trains.

Darker hues dominated the eveningwear colour palette, but the collection took a sharp turn with their athleisure staples. A sharp contrast to the structured silhouettes, the everyday staples compromised of baggy silhouettes and vibrant pops of colour.
The line of ready-to-wear, shoes, bags, jewellery and accessories are marked with a badge of sport or trefoil logo over the name Balenciaga in the lowercase adidas typeface.
