Saudi Arabia presented its Riyadh Expo 2030 master plan this week in Paris, France, during an official ceremony hosted by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City. It was delivered to representatives from the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE)’s 179 member countries. The concept intends to provide an unprecedented worldwide experience in Expo history by reflecting the significance of Riyadh Expo 2030 and its beneficial function, as well as embodying the exhibition’s key theme: “Together for a Foresighted Tomorrow.” The Saudi dossier focuses on technology, innovation, sustainability, and global collaboration. The Kingdom’s assistance package intends to provide equitable display slots for all participating countries.

During his speech to the General Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah stated that Expo 2030 provides an opportunity to promote work on projects with global impact and to collaborate in finding global solutions to common challenges through innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity. These ideals, according to Prince Faisal, are at the core of the Riyadh Expo 2030 proposal. “The Riyadh bid to host Expo 2030 includes a package of programs which involve allocating $343 million to help 100 countries in areas such as pavilion construction, maintenance, technical support, travel, and events,” said Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir. He also stated that the Kingdom will collaborate with its top global partners and private sector firms to build further assistance programs, stressing that this represents the Kingdom’s commitment to establishing a complete global exhibition.

The exhibition budget is $7.8 billion, according to the Minister of Investment Eng. Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Falih, inspiring Saudi Arabia’s bigger investment ambitions in Riyadh. Eng. Khalid stated that this is also part of the Saudi Vision 2030, which calls for national-level investments totaling more than $3.3 trillion by the end of the decade, with at least 30% earmarked for Riyadh.
The Vision

The Riyadh Expo 2030 will take place near King Salman International Airport, which is now under construction and will be conveniently accessible to guests arriving there. They can get to the exposition site in minutes by taking the “Riyadh Metro” network, which connects to one of the three exhibition gates and the contemporary road network. The anticipated 226 exposition pavilions were planned in a spherical form with an equator line running through them. This aesthetic approach is consistent with the exhibition’s mission, ensuring that all participants have equal opportunity. The exhibition’s design is inspired by Riyadh’s old urban style, history, culture, and natural beauty. The location, designed as a modern area constructed around a historic wadi, represents both Riyadh’s “oasis” and “garden” origins as well as the country’s aim to pioneer a sustainable future for cities and their citizens.

Visitors may walk through a contemporary green oasis within one of the tributaries of Wadi As-Sulai, which runs through the exhibition site. This indicates the Kingdom’s and Riyadh’s dedication to protecting and developing nature responsibly. In the same vein, at the core of the primary proposal for Riyadh Expo 2030, a prominent landmark will be created to symbolise “Responsibility for Protecting the Planet.” It will be built with 195 columns to signify the number of nations that will be represented at the show. Three pavilions will surround this landmark, each reflecting one of the exhibition’s sub-themes: “Prosperity for All,” “Climate Action,” and “A Different Tomorrow.”
The expo will also include the Collaborative Change Corner (C3), which will foster innovation and creativity throughout the course of the seven-year journey leading up to and beyond Riyadh Expo 2030. The C3 intends to demonstrate how cooperation among the brightest minds in scientific, social, and intellectual advancements may speed up the transformations that will define our future.
