There is something rather lovely about a book that can be both a story and an object. This brand’s world sits precisely in that space, bringing together subjects that already lend themselves to fascination, from fashion and art to travel, design, gastronomy, hospitality and culture, and translating them into collectible editions. It is also why the brand lends itself so naturally to gifting. The right book can feel remarkably personal because it can be chosen around a person’s particular interest. A fashion enthusiast, an art lover, a traveller or a design aficionado can each find a different entry point into the collection. And then there is the slightly more specific pleasure of giving someone their icon ( according to their fascination with a particular personality, fashion house, artist or cultural figure). In a world of increasingly predictable gifting, there is something satisfying about finding a present that says, quite simply, “I know what you are into”.

A ‘novel’ addition to the room

A beautiful book rarely stays confined to the bookshelf. It finds its way onto a coffee table, a console or a living space, becoming part of the room as much as the story inside it. Assouline’s collectible editions lend themselves naturally to that role, bringing together a wide range of subjects while adding another dimension to the spaces in which they live. The collection moves across fashion, art, travel, design, gastronomy, hospitality and culture, meaning there is plenty of room for a personal point of view. A fashion enthusiast can gravitate towards fashion, an art lover towards art, a traveller towards travel and a design aficionado towards design. Put enough of the right books together and a bookshelf starts to become a portrait of its owner.

A new chapter in India

With its first flagship store at The Chanakya, New Delhi, Assouline now has its first Indian address, bringing its collection of collectible books to the country.

Because a book does not have to stop being beautiful once you have finished reading it. It can remain on the coffee table, become part of a bookshelf, be passed on as a gift or simply sit there looking very good while waiting for you to pick it up again. Sometimes, the book is the luxury (and the time to read it!)
