While 2022 was still halfway through, production houses and online streaming platforms made it a point to announce some of their biggest launches for the coming year. Greta Gerwig’s Barbie was one of the most exciting announcements. While some had mixed feelings with Ryan Gosling being cast as Ken, it still continues to be an exciting wait. Other franchise-based releases like Guardians of the Galaxy, Indiana Jones and Scream are something to look forward to as well. And with the popularity of online streaming series, platforms like Netflix, is set to release new seasons to some of its most watched series including You, Ginny & Georgia and a few others. Take a look at our selection of the best movies and shows to look forward to in 2023.

Netizens might be confused about what the 2023 Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling might actually be about. And yet, the confusion doesn’t take away from the anticipation given the release of images showing the sporting comicals outfits like neon spandex and rollerblades delivering a partially satirical look to the world’s most famous doll. And the mixed feelings about Gosling’s portrayal of Ken might still be a debate, yet we can’t help but swoon!

Continuing the adventures of Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel is all set to release the third installment where the plot focuses on the Guardians of the Galaxy attempting to make Knowhere a safe haven for alien refugees. Chris Pratt is back as Peter Quill and must rally his pals for a new mission to protect one of their members, which could lead to the end of the team. James Gunn directs the third movie in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, featuring the quirky underdogs that unexpectedly became box office gold.

A movie franchise that will forever remain iconic, Indiana Jones is back with an 80-year old Harrison Ford reprising his role as Indiana Jones and Phoebe Waller-Bridge playing his goddaughter. Jones is now living through the space age: it is 1969 and the moon landing is imminent. Having last encountered Hitler in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Jones thought that nazis would yet again be a problem. But now he is deeply concerned as someone from Nazi Germany is involved in the space programme – the sinister engineer Voller, played by Mads Mikkelsen.

The movie that popularised modern slasher movies, Scream is back with an all new installment starring Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera. Taking off from the last movie, Scream VI focuses on the four remaining survivors of the latest Ghostface killings, sisters Samantha and Tara, alongside twins Chad and Mindy, who decide to leave Woodsboro behind and move to New York City for a fresh start. But when do any of these survivors get to enjoy a fresh start? Marking his return, Ghostface makes an appearance on a packed train on Halloween night, leading the four survivors to be overcome with fear.

The chaotic mother-daughter duo is back, albeit, a little later than expected. The new season for Ginny & Georgia was renewed back in April this year, but only started filming last month. The new trailer left us with a lot of new scenarios including Ginny slowly beginning to understand her mother’s decisions, as well as some cliffhanger’s like the return of Austin’s father, Georgia’s wedding to the mayor, Georgia’s situation with the private detective Gabriel Cordova and of course Ginny and Marcus. And how many of these will actually be answered? Only time will tell.

This time, Joe’s moved to London and is now known as a college professor named Jonathan Moore who has attracted a group of posh new friends. What could possibly go wrong?

That ’70s Show’s Kitty and Red Forman are back! Jumping ahead to the 90’s the duo return as series regulars in the new That 90s Show, along with a whole new cast of teens, while Topher Grace, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Laura Prepon, Wilmer Valderrama, and Tommy Chong all return as guest stars. Maintaining a similar look and feel, the spin off looks very much like the same sitcom as before. The show takes place in the summer of 1995, where Leia Forman makes friends with a new generation of Point Place kids while visiting her grandparents, Red and Kitty, in Wisconsin.
